rossi 223 rifling
« on: November 29, 2006, 10:01:15 AM »
Just picked up a Rossi 223 rifle from Gander Mtn. in Winchester Va. for $149. Lotsogun for the price. Upon cleaning the gun (CHRISTmas present from the wife) I found the rifling to be shallow. Prehaps 3 or 4 thous.
I broke down a Valmet AK in 223 I own and it appeared to be the same shallow cut. Is this normal for .223?.
I'm used to 3006', 8mm, 45-70 etc. being deaper. Prehaps the high villosity requires less. Check out your .223s and let me know if I have something to worry about.

Mine also appears to be relatively shallow but I also looked at two more at a gun shop and they looked the same way so I don't figure it's anything out of the ordinary.

The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.

45/70..it's almost a religion.

Give us a range report. If you have any of the Wolf 223 let us know how it compares in accuracy.

Thanks.

I know what you mean, I have a Rossi Heavy Barrel .22-250 - it looks the same way. I am shooting 55 grainers @ 3,680 feet per sec. It may be standard for Rossi.
