I have taken a few deer with the 295 gr Aerotips, 10 to 50 yards, some contacted bone and some did not...performance has seemed fine to me. But, I'm shooting them out of a Hawken with 85 grains of loose Pyrodex.
Out of my inline (a Winchester Apex), I'm shooting 130 grains of Pyrodex behind the 338 gr Platinum Powerbelt. This has been my first season to use that setup, and I took 2 deer in Illinois with it a couple of weeks ago. A large buck at 150 yards and a good-sized doe at about 15 feet. Both contacted at least one shoulder and both exited leaving good blood trails.
Not sure if this helps, since you're shooting the lighter bullet at a higher velocity. I would think you'll be fine with animals the size of whitetails....
