The test begins

I started a test today on the affect of the poor forearm bedding that I discribed in the thread that Javelina started below on the subject of forearm bedding. I took my unfired .22 lr match barrel and sighted in then fired four groups five shots each at 25 yds. All groups were with CCI Green Tag ammo and all shots were counted. That could be bad since I am not very good with handguns but to discount them would also discount any flyer caused by the bedding. The avg. of the four groups was 1.211" center to center. The best group was .543" the worst was 1.823" with one bad flyer opening up an otherwise good (for me) group. The barrel is scoped with an old Simmons 1X3.5 handgun scope. It was also a little windy today but I tried to fire when the wind died down some. After I square up the forearm bushing and float the barrel I will finish the test.

Well I worked on the forearm bushing last night and got in reasonably square. I put the washer under the forearm to float the barrel and tightened it to 15 in/lbs. today I tried four more groups with the same ammo as before. I wish I could say the results was a great improvement but in reality it was about the same. I got a four group avg. of 1.44" this time.

Bruce, Try a control with no forend and rested on the front edge of the frame. You didn't mention the range? You may be a little under scoped for this research. You could stick a rifle scope on it to reduce sighting error.
