« on: December 01, 2006, 12:08:50 PM »
What r people's thoughts on the GP-100.... how accurate are they to... say.... 25 yards and how reliable.

Nothing major, just want my first plinking handgun to be a mini-cannon  ;D

The only one that I own.  Love it completely.  Cans at 25 yards, no problem.  13 years and no issues.

My first handgun was a GP-100.  I still have it and have never had a problem with it.  Plenty accurate at 25 yards.

I have it in 6" Stainless. I have a total of 6 handguns but if I could only keep 1 of them it would be my GP100. 6" 357 Mag will take down a deer and the 357 Mag is also one of the best man stoppers you can buy. The GP is also one heck of a target pistol. To me it is probably the best one gun handgun you can buy. It's good for hunting, home defense, target shooting and all backed by Ruger Durability. You can't go wrong with this one.

I've handled a 4" in the store and it felt like an awesome gun.  I'd like to buy a 6" stainless steel model like you're talking about some day.  I've only heard good things about rugers quality and accuracy.

I have owned dozens of handguns - many of them fine custom jobs.  My old eyes just don't work that good anymore - the pleasure of shooting handguns has faded away quite a bit, and so I have been reducing my collection to the real KEEPERS.  Like some others have said - the last one to go will be my GP100.  It's the one I have used the most, had absolutley no problems with, outshoots anything I have ever owned, and the grip fits me like Bill Ruger designed it for me.  Overall, an extremely robust, easy to maintain, well-designed, and accurate revolver.  An inexpensive Wolff spring set will lighten up the trigger if you so desire, but not necessary.  I have had mine for 15+ years.  Some custom smiths used to (probably still do) convert them to 5 shot .41 mags.  I lusted for one of those for many years, but it was always very expensive.

An interesting tidbit of iinfo... if you have bigger hands, the bigger grips from the Super Redhawk will fit on a GP100
