OOOOOKAy I did a booboo on the castle nut set screw

Yep, I was in the process of tightening the castle nut set screw on my M1A flashhider, using a bit in my magnetic driver/handle.  Something happened and the bit broke... leaving the end piece in the set screw.  All my efforts to remove have been ineffective.  I do not have a precision drill press that would allow me to drill out the screw and i cannot find a "easy out" small enough.

Is it time for a real gunsmith? Or is there something that I don't know?

However, a real gunsmith should be able to fix it - just own up to it.  I have listened to them tell stories about folks telling them a "friend" did it, or a son, uncle did it.......at least you are honest about it.  Let us know what happens....

And remember this now that its broke let the smith do it .Ive seen more guns/car parts/anything mechanical messed up and harder to fix because the owner didn't now when to stop.

You aren't the first guy to twist off a screw but I am amazed you broke the bit off in the set screw! You might try a prick punch used at an angle to the rotation of the screw. This should pop the broken off piece loose.. The smith will either drill out the buggered set screw or use an easyout..  A set of left hand twist drill bits and a drill press with a reverse can work wonders is another wonder worker..!
PS-Just in case you hadn't figured it out, you don;t need that much torque. If its slipping a lead shot in the hole before the screw can help.. It'l protect the threads too..

Thanks guys.  I am the nerd that literally screwed up here...  I wouldn't hesitate to seek my gunsmith's "service" except that it takes this guy 6 months + just to look.

Why do I need to remove the castle nut in the first place?  The nut is tight and I can still clean the gas system without removing the flashhiderr.  O.K., I know the FH needs to be cleaned too...

I think I will just keep on keeping on until I can't keep on any more.
