caliber/rechamber question
« on: December 02, 2006, 01:52:20 PM »
First of all I am now hooked on these rifles, and this website.  I was wondering if anyone could tell me if it is possible to rechamber a .243 or any other gun to be a 6mm ppc?

thanks, Jackson

The 6 mm Remington reamer will not clean up a 243 Winchester chamber.

We've had this discussion before, Wally is right and the 6PPC won't work either. The 6mm-.284 would work if the ejector/extractor will work on the rebated rim. The .240 Gibbs would also work, brass is made from .30-06, is comparable to a 6mm-06 with a little extra case capacity.

MT - is it because of the 20/26 degree shoulders and the small amount of space?  Looks like everything else would clean...

Nothing to due with shoulder angles. Has to due with case diameter at 1.860 in from case head (bolt face). At this distance from the case head the 243 Win. measures .454, while the 6mm Rem. measures less then .454. On a bolt rifle, the barrel could be turned back enough to over come this problem. But, of course, on our Handis that is not an option.
