I need a good 30-06 handload

I need some sugestions on reloading my 30-06. Here is what i am going to start off with 47 grn's of 4064 Imr and 165 grn Hornady SST's. i would like to match the performance of the Hornady light mag. I'm using this on whitetail and hogs and will need to be able to shoot out to 300 yrds. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

For the 165 grain bullet try 58.0 grains of IMR 4350. You might want to start out with 56.0 grains first to see how it does. The 56.0 grain load of IMR 4350 is the same load that Federal Premium uses for their 165 grain loads. You might also want to change bullets as the Hornady SST is not up there on accuracy as some other brands. Go with the 165 grain Sierra Gameking of 165 grain Nosler ballistic tip or Nosler Partition.

I have used the Hornady SST's but prefer the Sierra Gameking for longer shots.

You'll be able to match the velocity of the Hormady Light Mag loads, but you will exceed safe pressures in your 06.  They have a proprietary method to load the powder which allows them to get that extra bit of umph withhout going over SAAMI pressure specifications.  The difference in drop and terminal velocity of a safely loaded 30-06 and the light mag loads is negligable.  With a little field work you can see what the difference is and adjust your sights accordingly.

57 grs of  I4350 and the 165 gr bullet of your choice.

I will echo the 57 gr. of IMR 4350 and 165 gr. bullet, my preferred is a Nosler Ballistic Tip or Partition depending on the game.  I've taken deer out to 450 yds. with this combination from a good rest and calm conditions.  This is the combo that my rifle, my brother-in-law's rifle, my brother's rifle, and my father's rifle all shoot under 1", it's the only "universal" load I've ever run across.  It runs out at 2825 fps from my FWT M70 classic.

I'm with beemanbeme,and selmer.I load 57grs IMR 4350 in several 06s using 165gr partitions,speer,and hornady sp.Each rifle will shoot under 3/4'' and some under that.My dad used 48grs IMR 4064 with sierra 165 bt for years.

Another vote for 57 grains of IMR 4350 and 165 grains. I like the Nosler Accubonds.

It seems that we no longer have a thumbs up icon!!   Other than a quick work up with a component lot change, for one of my rifles, I haven't bothered trying anything else since '79.  Wound's indicate the there is still proper expansion on deer past 400 yards.  I have never recovered a bullet nor lost an animal with it.

I use 60 grains of reloader 19 and the Hornady 165 grain boattail.

I prefer H4350sc as it is said to be temperature insensitive. But would use any of the 4350s as they are all simikar. In my guns the PTs and BTs shoot well and, lucky for me to almost the same POI. capot david
