Leupold VX-I 2 x 7- 33mm Shotgun/ML Scope, Made in USA or Not?
« on: December 04, 2006, 05:58:30 PM »
I just purchased a VX-I 2 x 7 -- 33mm Shotgun/Muzzleloader scope and was wondering if it is made in the USA.

It has the Gold Ring which I thought all made in USA Leupold products have but it lacks any USA markings on the manual, scope or box.
In fact, it has no country of origin listed at all.  Please tell me this is not a Chinese scope.  If so, it's going back.

I've sent an email to Leupold and they are not responding.

Thanks.

I have two VX-1 2-7x33 Leupolds, one is marked made in the US, the other one isn't, also have a 4-12x40 VX-1 that is marked. I suppose it could be the new ones just don't have enough US components in em to claim they're made in the US,  and it's not surprising at all in this day and age of globalization.

The box for mine says simply: "Made in USA" on the end opposite the info on what the scope is. Mine is however a VX-II NOT a VX-I. I'm not sure if the VX-I and Rifleman are US made or not.

I called Leupold Techincal Services and they said ALL of their scopes are Made In USA!  Well sort of.  The lenses are made in either Germany or Japan because they can't get a US supplier to make them in sufficent quantity or quality.  I assume the german lenses would be in the high end Leupold scopes?  I specifically asked about the new VX-I Shotgun/ML scopes and he said they were "made in the USA". He was pretty firm about it.  The metal and all other parts are USA and they are assembled here as well.

Good news.

Don't count out Japan as good glass, they make Nikon and other camera lenses and are on a lot of the top cameras. But Leupold is American made.  ;D
