Handi barrel

Who would like a handi barrel rechambered from 308 win. to 300 win short mag. this barrel has been shot about 100 times. area where hinge pin contacts barrel to soft and space was starting to show at top of barrel and receiver.
Will give to someone who knows Handi rifles and reloading, and will report on use of barrel. you know who you are. Will not sell. you pay postage from Alaska to your address.

This is kind of odd. Why are you giving it away?
Sounds to me that it is stretching your receiver, that was the report when someone tried it before but in a 300Win Mag. The 300 short Mag is a very high pressure round.
Who did the rechamber for you?
Sorry this just leaves me with a lot of questions....

Just so everyone knows, no one offers any of the WSMs in an Encore which has a stronger frame than an H&R, Bullbery did but they no longer do. This barrel may be fine for a rebore and rechamber to something larger with less pressure and case head thrust, I don't know,  but I wouldn't recommend shooting it as is with full pressure loads, for very long! I would think that the relatively soft underlug may be a problem if it wasn't modified, not to consider what it might do to the frame.

Seems like even if the lug isn't too hammered, the .555 base dia would be a problem.

It's not too much over the 450 Marlin...and even using the start loads offered in the Lyman 48th edition is a healthy improvement over the 30-06 in a 22" barrel...and the pressures are in-line with the 450M too...Time to find some good gas checked bullets too.....

 You got it as soon as I can get my computer to let me into the personal messages, access controlled by employer!.
 The barrel is the standard 308 barrel supplied by H&R barrel program. it was rechambered by a friend in Anchorage Ak that has owned his machine shop for years and is into making custom guns.

Handi35, how well did the ejector or extractor handle the rebated rim? That question has come up before concerning other rechambers to rebated cartridges, but no one has had the answer.

 To start we fired 3 winchester 180 gr factory failsafe loads then 180gr nosler reloads never found an accurate load before finding gap at breech, shot about 100 rounds of starting loads from IMR. never had a stuck case, always ejected.

Good for you Mac, an early Christmas present. And very nice of handi35, but with a name like that he is bound to a great guy!!! Two of my favorite things, Handis AND 35's (calibers). And to think he gets to live in Alaska too!!!....<><....

Well...the hing area will definatly get redone...that's for sure...even it it has to be rewelded and then refitted...Cast bullets...are definatly in the mix for it...

Handi...send me your reloading data you used...if you don't mind...I'm looking at the difference between IMR's start load data...and that of what the Lyman book shows...There's enough pressure differences showing with the 150 grainers to give it a go with the lower pressure data..Have you tried fitting anyother frames to this reciever yet...and if so...how is the lock up on it?
