trapping for cats
« on: December 05, 2006, 11:53:22 AM »
hey guys Im trying to remove all predators from my property but particulary bobcats. I have a few questions about different aspects. I am trying to use cage traps because of my grandfathers dogs that roam around the property. Are these very effective agains cats? I have had several people tell me that cats won't go in cage traps. Also what bait do you use? Any other tips are very welcome. For those of you who are wondering my purpose in doing this is because I am trying to manage a rabbit population for my dogs to run. 8)

Cats will go into cages , no problem. I have caught bobcat, feral cats in cages regularly where i have used cages.  I usually cover cage a bit with brush and put grass or dirt on wire bottom inside.  I leave back open from  debri or sticks so cat can see thru cage.  Bait can be alot of meats ,  everyone has thier  own ideas.  Here in WI  you cant have sight exposed bait so if using inside cage  either cover inside cage or cover over top of cage.  Cats hunt with thier eyes and ears so you could also use a squeaker  nearby or shiny object hung on string to attract  cats.  Good luck
