Ruger 204 accuracy problem
« on: December 06, 2006, 04:52:18 PM »
I have a new Remington Varminteer /w fluted 28" barrel .... I can't obtain acceptable accuracy using Hornady brand ammunition ... Has anyone experienced this problem ?  Due to my location in Maine, I don't have access to a outlet which stocks a varity of "small caliber" ammunition ?  What works for you ?  I'm not a hand loader, just a simple coyote hunter .... Thx. in advance

What grain load are you using.  I had similar problems when I got my encore 204 barrel.  Would make groups like 00 buck shot w/ the 40gr Hornadys, but when I tried the 32s it just made the first hole a little bigger at 100yds.  300yds would make apple sauce every time. ;)

I agree, most seem to be twisted for the lighter bullets

Just bought an NEF in 204, used from a friend who shot 10 rounds of Hornady 40gr. I tried the remaining 30 that he gave me with the rifle. First reaction, shouldn't have bought a cheap rifle. Bought the Hornady 32gr, now have a great shooting rifle for $150!! The NEF is 1 in 12" twist same as Remington.

Amazing the difference isn't it.
