Texas Exotic Bowhunts

I live in the Midwest (ILL./Iowa border) so our only Biggame is Whitetail & Turkey.  I started researching Texas Exotic & Hog Bowhunting facilities a little over a year ago to expand my Bowhunting Season.  I have been to Texas on 5 hunts now with more planned in the future.  I have hunted both High Fence & open range day leases & am in the finale stages of producing a informational video about hunting day lease.  I have no desire to take a Texas Whitetail (thou I have seen some dandies) since I have Monster Bucks roaming my back yard timbers close to home.  I have taken to your Exotic animals thou & have found it a big change & have managed to take a few on my trips plus a few hogs.  You are (Texans) fortunate to be able to hunt hogs & other animals almost always, year round.
How many of you Bowhunt Exotics & hogs & what is in your opinion, the hardest to tag?  Your Hogs, to me are by far the Toughest of any animal to take with a Bow & I have plenty of others-Black Bear, Caribou, Elk, Goat, Whitetail, Mule Deer in 45 years of bowhunting.
The hogs have been tough, even with a fatal shot-I have been charged & chased & I guess thats part of the thrill.  I just want to let you know that you are fortunate to have the hunting available to you.

I was booked with Hill Country (Gunn Ranch) & it was sold & closed to hunting.  I am thinking about Carta Valley now-anyone been or know about the Ranch Bowhunting?  Any information would greatly appreceiated.

I hunted Carta Valley 3 years ago and it was a great hunt. The terrain and cover makes for challenging bowhunting. Another bowhunting only ranch I hunted in Jan. 2002 was the DOS XX ranch located in the Sabinal, Texas area. I had a good hunt and shot a silver medal Texas Dall and a 125 pound hog. I screwed up a chance at a good chocolate fallow when my cam touched the ladder stand as I drew on him. He was gone in a flash! I haven't seen any reports on the DOS XX so I don't know what's happened there in 2003. It was good hunting when I was there. :grin:

Cowboy ranch.

Here's some pictures I took at Thompson Temple's Cowboy ranch a few weeks ago.   There are some axis and fallow and 3 big blackbucks there and some red stags, but mostly whitetails.   Its a good bow hunting ranch because it is so thick.

Carta Valley starting noon the 16th of Nov.. (5 days)Should I get a Lic. to cover the Whitetail?  I have big Whitetails at home & this hunt is taking place during our gun season (I only bow hunt) .  I will be allowed 3 hard horn animals BUT since we are not privvy to Exotics in our neck of the woods it is a nice change.  Anyone Bowhunted carta Valley in the past or during Deer season?  Just curious...

I just met a guy at a hunters expo named Kent Crawford, he owns Cedar Ridge Ranch in Stuart Oklahoma. Super nice guy. He has some of the best prices around on exotics . I will be hunting with him at the end of October, I can tell you more about it then. I will be hunting moose and caribou in canada first two weeks of oct. as soon as I return I will be making a trip down there.  Im not trying to get you away from Texas , this just might be a little closer for you.

I just returned from Oklahoma-Shilo Bowhunting.  This was my 2nd trip & I was on the Ram/hog hunt this time.  Took a nice (Silver) Corsican Ram & a good eating hog.  VERY reasonable & Matt & Cheryl are super hosts with a good clean, well run operation.
What is available at the place in Stuart & prices?
