7600P Question
« on: December 08, 2006, 12:01:31 PM »
I recently saw an article about this gun in 308 caliber. Though interesting, the author was a little sketchy regarding accuracy of the gun. My question to those of you with first hand experience with this gun is: What kind of accuracy do you get from the gun? I use 5 shots at 100 yds to test my guns but whatever experiences you have had would be helpful. Thanks.

I can't speak to the .308, but my .243 shoots pretty well.  3 shots under 1" at 100 yards is pretty typical with factory ammo.  Never felt the need to handload.  I've heard similar reports from others with other calibers.
Searching for the perfect left handed revolver.....

Have a 7600 I bought new, a couple of years ago in 308.  With my handloads 150gr. shoots 1" groups, factory loads 150gr. between 1 - 1.5, three shot groups though.  Really like mine so far.  Magazine spring is a little stiff

I have a 7600P in 308 and love it.  It will shoot 1 1/4" groups (5 shot 100yds) with factory ammo with a 4X scope.  I don't keep it scoped very much though because it is so handy without a scope and the ghost ring sights are great.  What I did was put a weaver base on it and a set of weaver detachable see through mounts with a Leupold 4X scope.  The mounts are easily detached and hold zero plenty good enough (within 1/2") when reinstalled, I just carry the scope with my kit and put it on as desired.  The gun would probably produce tighter groups with a lower scope mount because of a better cheek weld but that is not what I bought the rifle for. The ghost rings are not as accurate as a finer peep would be but when you are shooting at a deer there is no real difference between a sight that allows you to shoot a 2 1/2" group and a 3" group and when you bring the rifle to your shoulder the sights are there.  Where I hunt most of the time a shot past 100 yards is unheard of.

I have had zero problems out of my rifle.  When it came from the box the trigger was much better than the standard 7600s I have dealt with, also the 7600P comes with a metal trigger housing as opposed to polymer on the standard 7600s, I don't know if it is really any stronger but I do like it better.  The only change I have made to my rifle is that I use 7400 magazines because they will not allow you to close the bolt on an empty magazine accidentally.  The reason I made this change is I actually used my rifle as a patrol rifle and didn't want to think I still had rounds left when I was empty.  For a hunting rifle this is not really and issue.  The rifle has quite abit of muzzle flash/blast due to the short barrel but recoil is very mild with the R3 pad.  If you are looking for a quick handling accurate rifle, I think you will be well pleased with the the 7600P it is not pretty but it sure performs.
