Pics - 1995 exotics trip to Texas
« on: December 08, 2006, 12:46:46 PM »
Hi All,

Seems kinda quiet on this board.  One my projects to do over the holiday break is to scan the pics of as many hunting trips as I can.  As a first attempt, I scanned in about 40 pics from a 1995 exotics trip to the Galloway Ranch in Pearsol Texas with Ken Wilson of Sportsman-on-Film.

You might enjoy them!

Please share the details about the ibex you hunted.  I find the trophy quality very impressive indeed!
Thank you.

Hi TR,

Sorry to dissapoint.  Seems my best trophies are the easiest.  When Ken and I arrived at the ranch, we had to stup the truck to let about a dozen Ibex cross the road.  The one I shot was the biggest by far and we were impressed.  It was kinda late in the day and the ranch owner wanted to meet us and show us his private paradise (and it was!)  As we drove around he would see various animals and quote prices (the sable in the pics was $8,500) and we then encountered the ibex again.  Ther owner snarled..."those damn things...what a waste...you can have anyone you want for a grand."  Ken looked at me kinda side ways and guess who was the "soup dejur" as soon as the sun came up the next morning!!!

We drove around the 2 or 3K acre spread and we saw a donkey on a dirt trail.  Ken said, "There they are...ibex and goats always seem to hang with donkeys..."  Wierd....

Sure enough out of the brush came the ibex as you can see in one of the pics.  We got out of the truck, stalked around to the next open area and as they came through the brush.......pow.

That's it!  It measures an SCI Silvere medal at 85 1/8th and is listed as #40 in the 9th edition.  I haven't purchased a more recent edition since 1996.  No matter...was sure fun!
