Is this a good price?
« on: December 08, 2006, 02:14:28 PM »
I'm going to be selling a Win 94 Trapper in 44 Mag to buy a ??????  Been think about getting an Encore or Contender in 44 mag for a number of reasons, but the question is,,  a local gun shop owner has a used Handgun Contender with a 44 Mag barrel with what appears to be an Aimpoint (didn't take it out of the display case) red dot scope like this one.
http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=120783&CustNum=100765821&EblastID=12720061

He's asking $599 but will give it to me for $549.  It looked in very good condition.  The grip had what appeared to be a rubber backing (grip was wood) that fit in the web of the hand and the barrel seemed about 10" long.

Is this a fair price?  He's usually right at the top of what guns sell for.

Also, how do I tell if it is a G2 or not?  I understand the older ones had some issues I'd like to avoid.  It did have the selector firing pin switch on the hammer if this helps.

I would say he is a tad bit on the high side depending on what he really has
the barrel should be from about 150 to 200 depending on the type of barrel and less if it is an older hotshot barrel or octagon barrel
the frame should be around 2 -250
the scope might bring as much as 100 and maybe a lot less

The G2 looks like a smaller encore it doesnt have the engraved sides like the contender and has the "lip" on each side of the frame.

A true value is very hard to do with out seeing it and prices very from place to place depending on the demand in you aera.

The 10inch BBL 44Mag @ ED`S should run you 125 or less. a new frame with grips is 259. That should get you pistol grip and forend. To put a G2 together with a aim ponit or a quatily scope 400 to 425. You can get a good scope or red dot on e-bay barrels are a little high on e-bay. I have bought my last 2 44 10inch BBl for 90.00 at my gun store. hope this helps
