If you get a rifle nef that doesnt have the factory installed scope mount can you buy the mount and have a gun smith drill and tap the rifle?And change the hammer as well.
Any help would be helpfull

All NEF/H&R rifle barrels come drilled and tapped for a scope rail, even those listed with sights. See the FAQs and Help sticky for scope rail options. You can also get the hammer spur extension and scope rail direct from H&R for $18.

I just got a .500 barrel, mounted a scope rail and scope on it after removing the plastic sights.

Quick, would you get the ultra scope rail if you were mounting a 3x9x40?

I wouldn't, it's for big scopes that need to be mounted with a ring way forward, it has a set screw that is positioned .0015" off the barrel, not touching, but there for support in case the scope gets bumped.
