An assortment of barrels

I stumbled across these yesterday whilst exploring a closed fort in Muscat & thought I'd post them here for interest.


Five barrels crying for their carriages!




Can anyone identify the markings on the small one? The indented cascable is of intrest, I believe that it is French & have seen this feature on a few barrels here, I presume that it was for turning on a lathe.


This one missing its cascable, no powder can for scale sorry, the kid will have to suffice, he's 6' 4".



A circa 1890s 3 pr Hotchkiss - pretty much complete!

IT WOULD BE EASY TO AQUIRE ONE ( AFTER STARTING A CIVIL WAR AND OVERTURNING THE PRESENT GOVERNMENT ! HA ! )
     IT IS REALLY A SHAME TO FIND REALLY GOOD STUFF RUSTING OR IN DECAY , WHEN THEY ARE THOSE WHO WOULD CARE FOR THEM LIKE FAMILY!

For the reference kid..... did you mean 4' 6" rather than 6' 4"?

The kid's height was a little exaggerated I admit! 

The company I'm temporarily working for has now submitted a proposal to build historically correct carriages for all the barrels along with tackle, sponges, rammers etc etc & to mount them inside the gun tower, which has 6 gunports. Also to restore the Hotchkiss to working condition. It will take a very long time before it gets approval though, but will almost certainly happen. We have done about 40 carriages for the Ministry here, of about 20 different carriage types, most are for a SBML artillery museum that the company has been contracted to set up in one of the large restored castles here. I'm nuts about cannon, so every day I have to pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming! Adrian
