1st Amendment thrashing
« on: December 09, 2006, 06:31:28 PM »
It's sad that our 1st Amendment rights are regulated by the whims of one person. In the terms of use, this site abides by the laws of the federal gov. and the states of Alabama and Texas. That is except the bill of rights. The 1st amendment gives us the right of free speech. I have always believed that I may not agree with what you say, but I will fight to the death for your right to say it. But here, you are not allowed to talk about certain things or certain "people". Don't believe me? Watch how fast this thread gets locked or removed and how fast this screen name gets booted.

I don't post much, but I lurk and read quite a bit. And it rankles me when someone tells me what I can or can't talk about as long as I am in no way breaking any of the terms of use that I agreed to. Just because someone has a personal issue with something and "owns" this web site, does not make it right to tell me that I can or can't talk about something.

Go ahead and lock this thread or remove it or even boot me out of this forum if it makes you feel better. The only thing you'll prove is that I'm right and your wrong. Take your ball and go home. At the least some of the people who read this in the mean time may have a chance to think about this.

There are other places to go where people can talk about whatever they want without having to worry about someone jumping on them for having an opinion.

End of rant. You may bash away at will, but I wont see any of the replies.

You have the right to say whatever you think on any streetcorner.

Don't expect that someone will provide you with a megaphone, though, at their expense. That isn't a part of the First Amendment.

The terms of use agreement is a contract. Be adult enough to be bound by what you've agreed to.

The premise of your post is without content.  You exhibit little understanding of the concept of rights.  The first amendment is an obligation upon government.  It in no way abridges your right to free speech that within the domains of another's private property, this web site, you may not say whatever pleases you. Take your money, buy a server, lease some T1 lines from an ISP, create your own web site, and then speak as freely as you wish.  It is no wonder that the rights of American citizens are so uncertain and subject to narrowing (I'm thinking now of the second amendment) when citizens have such a chaotic, dim understanding of what rights are.

Would I be allowed to come into your home and say anything I wish? Or would I be kicked out on my kister immediately if I didn't confine myself to the "rules of your home"?

Same here. My house, my rules. Follow them or be gone. Every site I've ever participated in that tried to let folks say and do anything they pleased ended up being trashed by the folks who do not care to behave. Then all the good folks left and nothing but trouble makers were left, the site then folded. Ain't happening here.
