are the flutes worth it??

im thinking abt doing another .223
i was wondering if the fluted barrel is worth the extra bucks?
also are the choate varmint stocks any good?? how do they feel as far as the grip on them and the shoulder pad against one's shoulder?

can't speak for the fluted barrels as I don't have one, but I do have a set of the varmint stocks and I love em.  Very comfortable.  I have mine on my 30-06 and 25-06.  They really seem to reduce recoil a bunch.

I have a fluted .22-250 with the Choate Varmint stock, it's not as bad as I thought as far as ergonomics, it's easier to shoot from a bench with a bipd and no rear bag. Those that have them on heavy recoil calibers really like em, I'm sure Larry (Poncaguy) will check in, he has several of the Choate stocks, highly recommends them.

The fluted barrels look nice, but I don't know that they're any more accurate or cool faster, but they do look good! I've been thinkin on doing some stock swapping and putting a lam stock set on the fluted .22-250, or just buying a .243 Fluted barrel.

There are two advantages to a fluted barrel, less weight, not that much but every bit helps when in the field, and more surface area, so they cool faster than an unfluted barrel. I guess it's all personal preference.

Maybe I am confused.... I was under the impression the "flutes" had an impact on a few things...... added stiffness and added cooling surface for the barrel.  The weight reduction was just an added benefit of the fluting process.

Varmint A l seems to sum it up the best so i would go there he is an angineer and wrote a program to study it and it seems to add stability/ stiffness.
