Yesterday a guy brought in a Weatherby Vanguard chambered in 300 Wby that he said wouldn't extract fired cases. I looked at it, and thought I could see a bulge in the chamber. I poured a cerrosafe cast, and it wouldn't come out. I melted it out, and pulled the barrel. Wow, my 190 pounds couldn't budge it on the end of a 24 inch wrench! Got my 300 pound neighbor, got him to lean on the wrench while I pulled up on the other end with another one. Finally we got it off. I poured another cast, and it slid out just fine. They had torqued that barrel on so tight that it distorted the chamber! I had to take .003 off the shoulder to get it to time up properly, reassembled it and test fired it. It worked just fine! I can't imagine why Howa feels the need to put who knows how many hundered foot pounds of torque on those barrels, when 30 or so will do just fine.
