turkey load

I'm playing around with a turkey load in a Knight ML 12 gauge. Just wondering if some shot buffer and nickel plated shot like they use in the premium turkey shells would improve the patterns. Anyone ever tried this?

Have not tried buffer or nickel shot but they may help.  In a shotshell loading article I was rereading recently, they talked about lower velocity giving tighter patterns.  You might reduce you powder charge to see if the pattern tightens up.  The article also indicated slower powders give tighter patterns.  777 would be on the high end of ML powders, and I think Pioneer is on the slow end, with actual BP in the middle.  A milder primer may help, too.

Thanks for the info. I reduced the charge from 120 to 110 grains of Pyrodex Select, and the pattern improved a bit. Easier on my shoulder too. Any lower than that didn't seem to make much difference. The Knight uses a 209 primer. It already patterns great out to about 25 or 30 yards - just trying to tweak a few more yards out of it. I figured I could make it like the Remington Premium Turkey loads that I use in my 11-87.
