Still making tracker 1 barrels?
« on: December 13, 2006, 10:04:03 PM »
I can't find it now but I could have sworn that someone recently posted that they had gotten a Tracker 1 (nonrifled) slug barrel fitted to their receiver.  It is not mentioned on H&R website.  Are they still making it?  I hope in 20 gauge?

I don't think they are still "producing" them, but at last inquirey, they still had both 12 and 20 ga in stock.  I have one in 20ga and took my first deer with it, this year.  I really like it.  All you need to do is call CS and get the info, then send in your receiver.  The contact info is in the FAQ sticky on the rifle forum.

They still have Tracker I barrels in both 12 & 20 gauges.  I just ordered one in 20Ga.  Call CS first to verify and get the item number

I called yesterday (Feb 9, 2007) and was told that no more Tracker I barrels are available.

If anyone knows the part #, I'd love to call them again and ask "do you have any ### available?".

Sad.  Now I have to start searching for a used or NOS Tracker I 20ga.

OK Rich, thanks and good luck!!! I ordered a new 20 gauge Tracker I barrel when they had them and did find an as new Tracker 1  in 12 gauge at one of my favorite gun stores, Two Rivers Canoe and Tackle in Medway, Maine so I have virtually new Tracker 1's in both 12 and 20 gauge....<><.... :)

I thought NOS meant New Old Stock. I can't believe I waited to long to get a Tracker barrel fitted. What a dope! If it involves packing it up and shipping I always put that off for when I have more time and that never seems to be the case. I guess there is nothing left to do but find a couple NOS 12 and 20 ga trackers to pay too much for!

Cookieman - thanks for the part #s.

MSP Ret - I'm with Markus.  NOS = New Old Stock.  A catch-all term for unsold in-stock discontinued merchandise.

  A thought..maybe a goofy one, but hear me out, please !

 Those new vent rib barrels at $81..they have a screw in choke.

 .How about leaving the screw in adapter out ?

  Barring that, the vent rib barrels are 28" modified  how far back would a gunsmith have to cut it to make an improved cylinder ?

  I was at Walmart the other day and saw some beautiful firesights for a vent rib..the set even inculuded a an aperture "ghost ring" with the green fire dots imbedded in either side of the ring..

  Price..as I recall, about $17...

   Just a thought !  ....What's your thoughts ?

I wish my wal-mart had that sight set you mentioned. I have an IC tube for my TDC barrel but I have'nt tried slugs through it yet.

Ironglow, slugs shoot best by far through a modified or improved cylinder choke. Don't shoot them through a barrel with the choke tube removed you may screw up the threads....<><.... ;D

MSP;

   Thanks, I wasn't too sure whether the slug would contact the threads, being as the peak of the threads would still be at least a couple thousandths larger than the bore. That is asking too much precision with a slug though, I presume.

   Markus;

  If I get to my Walmart soon, I'll try to get the stock # for you...these were of course, meant to clamp onto the vent rib of a shotgun barrel.

Well, I called again using Cookieman's part numbers and got an immediate 'yeah, we got lots of those left' from customer service.  So I shipped my receiver/forearm and order form right away.  They received it one week ago today, and I haven't been contacted with any bad news yet.

Just curious - will H&R contact me in any way if there are no issues with my request?  Will they send some sort of order acknowledgement or anything?

Did you call about the 20ga only? Or did they have some 12's left over?

There ya go Aaron, if they have 12ga, all ya gotta do is lop it off and get the tubes done.  You should be able to put the front sight back on "no problem" or maybe even a different one.

I would like to kknow if they have any 12s also.  Maybe I should call.

Sorry, guys.  I know I posted to another thread, but forgot to post it here also.  When I called CS last week, I was told there are no more Tracker I barrels left. >:(  If you see one used anywhere, jump on it 'cause they are gonna be hard to find.  Maybe H&R will run another batch of them sometime down the road.  Maybe if enough of us call or email them about these great barrels they will make them again.

It's here!  What must be one of the last Tracker I barrels ever sold arrived at my house today via UPS.  It looks good.  Light & short.  I can't wait to take it out shooting.

I'll post a range report once I do.

Time to go shopping for slugs!
