death at my feet
« on: December 14, 2006, 06:06:53 AM »
today i was putting out food for my squirrel when i hear something to the left of me. A coon was coming around the corner and he saw me the same time i saw him. I said to myself " crap this is bad" and before i could move he charges me. I always have my 2200 with a pointed pellet in it when i go to feed her because there is rats something and i like to shoot them. I get my gun up and fire hitting it in the noise and not stopping it. it's still coming so i hit it with the stock of the gun and then pen it to the ground with the stock and yell for my mom. When she did come i told her to get my gun. when she comes back she has my .22 and 380 auto. I knows the 22 is unloaded and the 380 has glaser ammo in it with 2 mag safe bullets in the mag. The coon keeps try to get at my feet and to get from under the stock and i yell "shoot shoot" but she can't without hitting me. she comes up behind me and fires the gun right next to my head. The coon had a large hole in it's body and it looked dead and when i put my airgun down and took my 380 from my mom  she yell "look out" and i turn and fired 3 shots into him killing this time for good. I gave my 380 to my mom and called the cops. when they show up they talked to me and ask who own the gun. My mom tells them it's hers and they check it and yes it's hers and then they called the dog catcher. I guess this coon was getting me back for all the ones i had killed. I am now going to have my 22 bolt with me or get a 44cal Black Powder  Revolver  which i can own.

Airguns aren't exactly up to the challenge of raccoons in a charge.  I've killed them with an eye shot while they were safely up a tree, but I had a .357 on hand in case things got out of hand.  Coons are nasty business, sometimes.
