Don't believe all of the propaganda that the unions throw at you.
No one is forced to work at walmart, if they are not happy with the hours or lack of benifits they can go job hunting

Personal experiences are what I'm talking about, no propaganda. I pay no attention to what I read, only what I see, if some of you only knew. Little else work around here. POWDERMAN.  :( :( :( :( :( :(

Huh? They are NOT paid advertisers on this site. Now they might be paying Google to advertise, in fact probably do, and we do have Google ads on here but we never have a clue who will show up in the Google ads. Google pays us, the businesses pay them.

Yup, that's how they get you.

As part of the reptillian global conspiracy they are going to buy enough advertising to controll our thoughts by curtailing free speach on the internet. ::)

GRAYBEARD. Thanks, I feel a bit better. This is the time of year they really trim their already understaffed help. They got rid of 7 or 8 two weeks ago, during the busiest time of the year. Christmas week 2 more. Monday a very hard working lady finished her 90 day probation and had gotten a very good evaluation. They called her to the office and tiold her that her position was eliminated and her services were no longer needed. Then she was told that they wanted her to go to another dept, as a NEW HIRE, no raise. She's still doing the same job, but under a new title, she was cheated out of her raise. The turnover was 58% last week, it will go much higher over the next month. They count on a high turnover to keep the pay low. They scedule folks to work til 11 or 12 at night, then be back at 6 or 7 in the morning, one lady had 5 hours between shifts. Weekly schedules are always different, hours, days off, this keeps employees off balance and is confusing, making sure the stress level stays high. One of the firings was because a schedule was copied wrong by a 7 year employee. They now have a new point system where it's 3 strikes and you're out. Funerals are no excuse, even getting sick is no excuse. A drs appt isn't either. One lady had a heart attack at work and was rushed to the hospitol, again, unexcused. Bad roads are no excuse either. The new system has gotten quite a few, again, to keep the turnover high.
I've worked a lot of worse jobs, and consider myself lucky to have this one. I've learned to go with the flow. My only purpose posting is so that the truth be brought out that they are not the family friendly stores they used to be. Corporate greed is ruining the company. They have already done away with layaway, more depts to close in march, or later in 2007. It's almost as if they are intentionally trying to lose business. The top dogs have never worked in a store, they are true pencil pushers and make a lot of poor decisions. Gotta go to church now. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I've heard a lot of both good and bad stories from Wal-Mart employees both past and present. Twice they've allowed my sister-in-law to transfer from here in Bama to CO where her daughter was when the son-in-law was shipped over to Iraq. Each time she was allowed to come back here to Bama to the old job with no loss in pay from either of the transfers. But for each such story I've probably heard a dozen of the negative ones as well.

I have no personal experience with them other than on purchases I've made personally. I don't say I necessarily like them and for sure don't like a lot of what they do. But they sure do treat you well if you buy something and decide it's not for you. I don't buy groceries there but these days there are a LOT of things it's hard to find anywhere else around the area. I guess that might be because they have more or less run out of business those other stores we used to be able to buy those things in.

But just because someone sees an ad on here from them in the Google ad section DOES NOT mean Wal-Mart is an advertiser of ours, they are not. They control NOTHING here and neither does ANY OTHER ADVERTISER.

JHM. I speak from personal experiences, not what I've read, or heard. Walmart does have the most liberal refund and exchange policy in the country. Walmart does give to many charities, but it comes at the expense of the employees, corporate doesn't lose one red cent. All in all I'm ok with my job, can't afford to lose it, but some of their policies and practices are far from ethical, or moral. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'm assuming Wal-mart is run like a sweatshop from some of the more "experienced" posts.....are you not allowed to "take this job and shove it"???   ???

My wife worked at a Walmart for 1 1/2 years. She was free to quit whenever she wanted. They were somewhat flexible with hours as well as we had a baby in the house at the same time.
I have to disagree with the sweatshop. All in all Americans like to bitch about wally world but love to shop there for price and selection as well as convenience.
At my former job I had to deal with walmart corperate... what a pain in the ......... but

Walmart is no sweat shop by any means. At 59 years old my job opportunities are not that great, so I'm staying. The walmart of 4 years ago is not the same as today. Corporate greed has hurt the image among customers, and employees. Our store mgr is great, as are both co managers, but in the end they obey corporate. The asst mgrs are mostly the pits, some are good, others are total morons. I changed a display 4x in 3 hours, as one asst mgr after another got involved. One asked if it made me angry. I said no, I call it job security. I believe we now have 16 in mgt, not counting dept mgrs. They used to care about people, now we are just employees. The upper mgt has helped me personally a lot. I just miss what used to be. POWDERMAN.  :( :( :( :( :( :(

Count me as a Wal-Mart hater, too! Our local Wal-Mart has the audacity to sell Blazer Brass .45 ACP ammo, 50 rounds for $9.97! Damn highway robbers know that I'll find a reason to further my target practice addiction and swing by their store once a week and buy 6 to 10 boxes. I keep telling myself that it's decent practice ammo and the brass is reloadable, so I'm just building up my brass supplies. Yeah, right. I had planned on spending the long winter out in my shop, building a better bullet, but most free time is spent at the range, or taking naps. It's all Wal-Mart's fault. Now if they'd just offer some deals on .357 and .44 ammo! Why are all the fun calibers so expensive? Peace and God bless, Wolfsong.

When an EMPLOYEE gives the company that pays his salary a hard core trashing like P man has been doing, there's usually a little more too it than meets the eye.  I'd be interested to hear some input from some of P man's supervisors.   ;D  ;D  ;D

There was an article in the paper today about walmarts announcement to computerize schedules from Arkansas for all of their stores. They said that a lot of folks, mainly cashiers, would be cut to 4 hours a day and worked 6 days a week. They also said that some employees would be on standby, and that even if scheduled to work they might send people home if they deemed it necessary. I'm not trashing anyone, I want to stay there, just telling it like it is. Somebody out there has also seen this story, pleas post it so everybody can see it. PLEASE. It was in todays courier journal in Lou Ky. They also said that everyones hours would be monitored to detect any part timers approaching full time hours, or overtime, so schedules could be adjusted to keep that from happening. Up til todays story in the paper I have been AGAINST the union ever coming in, now, I'm not sure but I hope it doesn't come to that. POWDERMAN.  :( :( :( :( :( :(

Well that just proves it!!  Wal-mart isnt doing anything behind anyones back and are up front with their plans, I havent read the article but using a computer to monitor employes work schedules isnt anything new, and if it will cut cost and be more efficient than its a good move, again with any change their will be some hiccups, and as always there are those whop dont want anything to change, AKA progress ;D   JIM

I don't get the bad Walmart rap. I live in Pittsburgh. Ex-Steel Mill town. The Mills are all but gone. Pittsburgh is now a high-Tech town. You have to go with the change. It's not always good....it's not always bad, but change is a fact of life.
With Walmart, it's the same thing. The day of the Mom and Pop shop is sadly over. I don't know anyone who was forced at gunpoint to take a job at walmart. I do know a few college kids, and a few semi-retired older Americans that work at Walmart, and have never heard a bad thing from them (any worse than any other job....guess it's called a job for a reason) I think that if you don't like a store....don't shop there....if you don't like your job....quit!
Times change. it's always been that way. It always will!
