Help! with a Marlin scope question...
« on: April 26, 2003, 02:24:13 AM »
Guys,

I am looking for a stainless steel set of rings and bases to mount a scope in the stock mounting holes. I have the 1895GS I am not interested in blued scope mounts! Its unfortunate that Marlin hasn't addressed this issue. I called them up and asked them about this and they say that there are no known bases out there for the Stainless Guide Gun in stainless finish.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jay

Leupold is now making their QR rings and bases for the 1895 and they're available in Silver. One piece base #54227. Don't know what scope you're using but the part number for the low silver rings is #49972

Weaver base in silver for 1895 is #63B-S

I'm sure there are other options as well. Seems that if it's a base that fits a Marlin 336, it'll fit the guide gun too.

Excellent!

Thanks so much for the help! I will bump Brownells on Monday and try to get the parts ordered. I was thinking about a Leupold XVIII 2.5-8 compact in silver should do the job. What do you think about medium height rings to stay away from the hammer?

Thanks again for the help!

Jay

I may be old fashioned and set in my ways, but I see no reason to put a variable scope on a Guide gun.  It's one more thing to go wrong. A fixed 2.5 will save you a little weight, a little money, and gain you a lot of reliability.

It ain't like you are gonna be shooting 300 yard varmints with that rig.
