Remington Parts question
« on: December 14, 2006, 02:34:26 PM »
I have searched quite a few places but so far I am unable to find a source for a bolt for a Remington Model 722.  Specifically for the .222 case head.

If anyone knows of a likely source or has an idea of a usable substitute... I am all ears!

Why?  Ex has the original bolt!

ANyway I am open to suggestions.

Thanks

I think most parts dealers refraing from selling complete bolts to keep prevent headspace problems from occuring.   If a 700 bolt will work, they are easier to find.   You would have to allow for the curved 700 handle in your straight 722 slot.   Somebody with more knowledge than me will have to answer that.   I do know a 700 bolt will fit in my 721 BUT THAT IS FAR AS I WENT WITH IT.   Maybe a gunsmith or Remington authorized repair center can get one?

I have seen a few 722 bolts on Ebay, you can also get replacement bolt bodies from Midway that are for the 700 but should work fine for the 722 as well. A 700 short action bolt should work also but you may have issues with the bolt handle. Whichever way you choose to go the bolt will need to be fitted/head-spaced  by a competent gunsmith.

Thank you all for the replies.

I haven't seen anything on ebay but I usually miss the good stuff.

I will check with my smith about the midway body and the idea of using the 700SA.

Thanks again and Happy New Year
