Call to arms-Disaster looming
« on: December 15, 2006, 05:34:36 AM »

There is an article in the Predator Extreme Rag about the invasion of feral hogs and the damage they are doing to private and public land. Feral hogs have a tremendous reproductive potential and can overrun an area. Predator hunters to the rescue. You would think land owners would jump at the offer to hunt their land to rid the porkers or at least thin them out and provide some sport while doing him some good and at the same time the hunter could put some meat on the table, Just an idea........Joe......

Yeah we have that same problem where I live only problem is that no one can shoot them because there are too many people who like to catch them with dogs and relocate them into pens so people can bay them. ::)

Aparently they have crept into southern Iowa.  The hunting regs now say shoot feral hogs on sight.

This article states that the feral hog is now in forty states and gaining ground by leaps and bounds. There has always been hogs in the south west corner of New Mexico but they are coming up north at a pretty good clip.
These hogs were left to wander when the people from back east settled in the boot heel of New Mexico some time in the 1800s. The Apache Indians came at the settlers from the north and the mexican bandits came at them from the south from Mexico, The end results were the settlers had to leave and did so in a rush and in the process they left a bunch of hogs.

Congrats on your newly bequeathed modship, Oso.  I saw a big ol' hog just west of Ragland the other night driving home from a Lodge meeting.  I guess they'll make their way on over sooner than I'd like for them to.  When I get some, consider it an open invitation any time you feel like shooting some of them.

Rancher.

Thanks for the congratulations, I sit on my rear end all the time so i might as well do something that i enjoy. I know the hogs make a mess of everything they touch but it would give us something else to shoot plus you can eat the pigs. I have eaten bob cat and lion but i draw the line on coyotes(Grin) and sod poodles. Take care my friend.......Joe........

The CO DOW doesn't even acknowledge the existence of said beast. They are in denial. The status to date is they are not protected in any way and can be shot like rats. They are coming and have shown up in south eastern CO.
