Versa Pack Combo came home with me today
« on: December 15, 2006, 12:02:46 PM »
Hi All,

Came home with a .22/410 Versa Pak today.  I do a little part time work for an ammunition manufacturer close to home and he also has an FFL.  I had him order me the combo the other day and it came in today while I was working.  Grand Total of $113.95 plus tax.  I got the combo for two reasons, #1 Cheap (Inexpensive)  #2 the gun is destined to be the cabin gun at my brothers cabin.  He has around 40 acres and we built a cabin on the property and we had talked about getting something like this in the past as it could be left at the cabin and we would always have a rifle/shotgun handy while we were out there.  (Not that either of us ever seems to go out there without firearms of some flavor anyways! :D)  Now for the question, the stock seems to be suited more toward kids than a couple of 240lb. men.  Do the other handi stocks fit this little job as they do with the centerfires and shotguns and if so does anyone have a black synthetic adult size stock that they would like to sell?

Thanks,

Wolfgang

Congrats!! As far as I know, the standard syn stock should fit it fine, just make sure you get a straight stock or pistol grip as opposed to the monte carlo.

Thanks Quick,

You don't happen to have one sitting around anywhere from all those other Handi's that you've got do you? ;)

Sorry, all I have is a syn monte carlo. You can order whatever you need from H&R....the list is last years prices, they never did send me a new list.

Thanks Again Quick,

I'll probably just contact H&R and buy the stock.  I want to send in my .44 frame to have a couple of barrels fitted anyway.  I think I will at least have the 45-70 and a 357mag barrel put on it but I may also order one of the 28 gauge barrels to boot.  Also would the little .22 barrel off of the versa pack rifle fit my center fire frame?  I hate to be a pain in the *@$ with all the questions but it is all you guys at this sites fault for getting me hooked on the dang Handi's anyway! ;)  I also think that I have infected my brother as he was talking with me on the phone the other day and said he was thinking about picking up a Handi Rifle as well.  I told him to watch out as they become a little bit addictive! ;D  At any rate it's a good addiction to have as they are not really all that expensive and the fun level is off the charts.  He is getting the little Versa Pack combo tommorow at our family Christmas but he dosn't know about it yet.  I also have a seeking suspicion that my wife may have ended up getting me that .223 Ultra that I spied at the gun store a short time ago.  I posted about it and she had told me it was sold but when I told her today that the rifle I ordered had came in she got nervous and seemed a bit worried until I told her what I had got and what it was for and then she seemed to calm down.  She's kind of sneeky like that! ;D

H&R won't fit the 22Lr VP barrel to any frame but the Versa pack, but if it will fit your 44mag frame, try if and see how it works.

To save yourself some shipping both ways, send your 44mag frame in for the extra barrels with no stock and order the syn stock you want at the same time, they'll return it with the stock installed, then just swap it to the VP frame.

Wolf;
   I recently swapped a versa-pack stock (in the classified here) with another poster for a regular Monte Carlo synthetic.
   Each of us had no problem fitting the stock we recieved..even though now I wish the stock I have were non Monte (because of the .410).

Ironglow,

I now, or I should say, my brother no longer has the Versa Pak as just prior to Christmas one of my dispatchers was running around trying to get a small rifle for her son who had just completed his hunter safety course and the only thing he wanted for Christmas was a .22.  She asked if I had anything and I told her about the Versa Pack but I had to call my brother as the gun was really his.  He of course said to let her have it an we would get another one.  So the kid made out on Christmas and we will have to wait until the distributer has more of them in stock to ship out.

Thanks for the kind words MSP.  As we see it, anything that can be done to get kids interested in our sport should be done.  I'm sure that the little rifle meant a lot more to him than it did to either of us and I still remember my very first gun and how I felt when I got it ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D.  I'm glad we were a small part of that.

Your so right right buddy, I still remember that first BB gun I got from Santa for Christmas, we kids got up so early that year after checking what Santa had brought us we all went back to bed, I brought my BB gun with me. I also remember the take down Winchester Model 97 12 gauge and the old 16 gauge single a friend of the family left in my "keeping" for a couple of years with the agreement that I could use them as long as I kept them cleaned and oiled. The BB gun and 16 are unfortunately long gone but I did recieve the Model 97 pump as a gift, acquired by my Mother and kid sister for me many years ago from Mr. Alton MacKenzie, the fine gentleman that owned it. Both he and my mother are gone now but the memories will last forever....<><.... :)

   Yup Guys;
  It sure is important to get the younger generation started with guns/hunting, and started out on the right foot. That is why I am going to take classes with the DEC and teach hunter safety courses. I already have a large Bible youth conference camp that wants me to teach the campers that want to get their certification...
   I am sure that others will want me to "volunteer" my services..which I will gladly do..

Congratulations ironglow, that's a great thing to do for our youth. I have been doing it for 15+ years now and it is satisfying to see youngsters get a good start and to counteract all that liberal hogwash about guns and hunting they get at school....<><.... :)

I second that.  I thank each and every one of those folks who devote their time, energy and money to helping kids get started in and understand the shooting and hunting sports.  I am amazed at how guns, in and of themselves, have somehow become evil.  Unfourtunately it is a product of our soceity which has an excuse for everything.  Nobody is responsible for their actions anymore.  It seems that no matter what some people do it is much easier to blame someone or something else rather than themselves.  My kids get tired of hearing it I'm sure but, I always preach to them to seek responsibility and take responsibility for their actions.  There are too many sheep roaming around in this world willing to follow and afraid to lead.  So again, if it were not for those folks like ironglow and MSP to take the lead and show kids what our sport is all about it would die.  Guns are not evil, ignorance is.  Sorry for the rant but when I start thinking about what the world was and what it has become, I get a little PO'ed..... >:(   Thanks again ironglow and MSP and all of you other folks who are out there doing their best to keep our sport alive.

Folks, I agree 100% it is critical that we get our youth interested in the outdoor sports.  If they don't we are all in trouble.  Hunting and fishing teach a lot about the outdoors but they also impart important life skills such as responsiblilty, patience, persistance, and respect.  I get so frustrated in the constant whine of people about oh we have got to do something everything is so bad, we need more laws about this that or the other.  That is ridiculous, we have got a world of laws now.  We need to start holding people acountable for their actions and not trying to find them some excuse for what they have done.  History is full of people who had a "bad" childhood who did well for themselves just as it is full of people with a silver spoon who did poorly.  It is about attitude, responsiblilty and accountability.  When I was a child if I would have talked to an adult once like children today talk to them regularly, my dad or mom would have snatched me up in a heart beat, it was not tolerated.  Lets face it Little Johnny stole that car because Little Johnny is a thief.  It has nothing to do with guns or any other inantimate object it is about choices Little Johnny/Susie make about what they are going to do or not do, and if we don't start teaching people this and teachiing them that they are responsible for their choices and actions our society is going to continue on the down hill slide it is on.  I know I have digressed from the topic but we have to make changes or our Country can not continue we will go from the greatest Nation on Earth to a third world cess pool we didn't become great by making excuses, we became great by taking responsiblilty and doing what needed to be done.
