PICS of the new CR-45 LC, anybody seen it yet?
« on: December 16, 2006, 06:20:48 PM »
I see they have the new stuff on the site already. The CR-45 LC has a short 20" barrel (the press release says 22" barrel) and a short Schnable forend. Check out the sights too. Looks like they are shootin' for the CA shooters with this one. I'm sure they are looking to sell a few for the Mississippi "Primative Weapons" season too.

I like it, but I won't be spending the extra bucks for the BC setup. I just want one of those barrels. Too bad it won't be a 22" though.
That checkered shnable foreend is awful pretty, kinda tempting ain't it?

Any indication if it (the CR-45LC) is drilled and tapped so we can put aperture sights on? Some of us have old eyes that need a bit of help. :'(

(just saw a picture of a similar gun with a BC forearm posted by Quick on another thread....<><.... :))

I still would like a "plinker" in .45 ACP....<><.... ;D

20in should work. When useing pistol rounds at a certain point a barrel can be too long and you will start to lose vel.
Some say 16in for a carbine is Ideal.
The sights they are useing on the 45 for CASS or some kind of offical comp?

I think wcf3030 has made a good point. My Marlin Camp Carbine 45ACP has a 16.5 in barrel, and due to the small case volume and lower operating pressures, would not see any significant ballistic improvement with a longer barrel.
I think the 20 inch will be a very good choise for barrel length. I have a 20 inch 45-70, and while probably giving up some performance, sure does handle well.
And of course we have the issue of the longer sight radius, which is always welcome when using open sights.

For handling with respect to hunting and shooting, which of the two stock types would you want, the straight or pistol grip? Do you think they are mounting the scope so high so you don't need to use the hammer extension? Anybody out there mounting their scope high enough so you don't need the extension? I see that some of you use a long eye relief scope so it's ahead of the hammer, which is maybe a better option if you don't like the hammer extension. Thanks!

Bill, there are numerous threads on scope mounting and ring height, most can be mounted with medium or high rings, those in the pic appear to be extra high or see-thrus, way higher than needed for scope mounting. With a little hammer modification, even extra low rings can be used, see low profile hammer mod for scope mounting in the FAQ.

Sports South lists the 45 Colt BC as $449.55 as their suggested retail price, for comparison the .45-70 BC is $432.23, so that tells me it's gonna cost more than a BC does now. :-\

For what it's worth, I have always used the Leupold Rifleman #55870 rings on all my Handis, my Huntsman, and on my scoped 20 gauge Pardner. I use, and have used objective lens sizes from 32mm to 50mm and have never used the hammer spur on any.

tallyho, I haave that problem, too.  I have thought of getting the "One Ragged Hole" set up for my Tracker.  They make a set that will work on that new 45LC.  That is, if they aren't drilled and tapped.  I am betting they ARE NOT....I, too, think this model is aimed at the Cowbog Shooters market.

I'm so excited. I wonder how long it would take to get one through the barrel accessory program. I would have it fitted to the BC 45/70 receiver I already have. Is the forend quite a bit shorter than the one I have? I like these Buffalo Classics just as much as the Browning Lo Wall.  Maybe it's just about the excitement from something new for us handi-holics.

Busta, how's the hunting going?

Usually the acc barrels will be available a while after the complete rifle is available, so I wouldn't plan on it before next spring IF the rifle is available in Feb-March.

Accessory barrels can be ordered with a scope rail, they'll just charge extra for drilling and tapping IF it isn't already. It will be the first rifle barrel of current production offerings that isn't drilled and tapped, all other rifle barrels come drilled and tapped even if they're offered with sights.

I could actually see me adding one of these as my second handi rifle. As many of you know the only one I have now is the old .30-30 H&R with full manliccher stock that used to belong to my best friend before his death. That's the one that took out the PD at 150 yards with iron sights. Which reminds me I've still not gotten my steak a certain fellow bet me on that.  ::)

Graybeard,

If you shot a PD with a 30/30 at 150 yards with iron sights then give me the name and number of your favorite restaurant and I'll set up a reservation for ya and I'll  pick up the tab for the steak dinner you didn't get. By the way, aren't you an old guy? Oh, I am not being disrespective of my elders or do I think that you are telling a tall tale. Sure wish I could have ben there for that shot.

Yup I'm an old fart. I'll be 62 in March. Nixter was the guy who just volunteered to buy me one from The Outback. Even wrote awhile back to say it was time to pay up but I'm still waiting. Ain't a big deal really. I just like to chide him about it from time to time.  :o

Oh yeah, I remember that. It was about the same time that I got a double at 240 yards with my blowgun using my special handmade 21 grain explosive expandable slimline dart.

I really do remember that shot Bill, just funnin' ya a little.

Mr. Graybeard,

I would be honored to sit down with ya for a meal anytime. In fact, I just had callored greens and pork hocks for the first time in my 45 years for our Christmas party. I really enjoyed that. I have shot #3 hogs and #2 bucks since I moved to Oklahoma in August. I like the single shots the best. My Grandpa would be proud. I think he is with me steadying my rifle when I take the shot. I live to hunt.

There were plenty of witnesses to the shot John. I know better than to make claims in this crowd without witnesses to back me up.

45 colt bc is great looking, I have been wanting that caliber for quite a while in a handi, just cant beleive that price though, gonna have to track down the metal spacer and trigger gaurd.  I am also thinking of forging a brass lever that will attach to the stock one and make a side lever style or maybe just a new cover for it ive been messing around with that idea for a while now.

will they have just a regular handi rifle with sights, that might also be an option with stocks customized from gunstocks inc.?

What you see is what you get! The steel trigger guard and spacer are no longer made, they had some of one of em left a few weeks ago, but I don't remember which is was, they were already out of the other. :'(

I like the looks of it as well. The price, however I do not.
It should prove to be a nice little carbine and I am sure the Cowboy fellas will like it, though I am not too sure they will be keen on the idea of actually manuelly pulling out the cartridge from an extractor, as most are timed events...
The sights look almost exactly like the 22LR given the front blade:

Good to see the 444 confirmed, still wanna see the twist rate on this one.

I wonder what bargin bin scopes they are throwing on there :-\ ??
