Hep me!- - Hep me! ....Calling all Marlin Doctors !
« on: December 18, 2006, 05:51:23 AM »
I have a question for any of you Marlin Lever Gun GURU's.. My brother has an 1895 marlin in 45-70.
Has been functioning perfectly until about a month ago. Now the lever will not go fully forward thus The bolt stops
about a half or three quarters if an inch from being fully rearward. I have fully disassembled the action and there are no broken parts ? The carrier rocker and part of the lever are polished like a mirror from wear though. What part would be the most likely
culprit? I know Winchesters inside and out but the marlin is a totally different animal ! This is my brothers most prized firearm and I would like to get it going for him again as soon as possible.

That little screw directly behing the loading gate is the usual suspect. Tighten it. While you have it apart go for the gusto and remove the fwd mag plug and clean his mag tube and spring as this is usually the next thing to cause problems as that's where the most dirt enters the workings of any levergun causing feeding problems. It is really the dirtiest and rustiest area of any tube fed levergun.
Take care and have fun. Swany

Is the rifle Scoped? Or if it is has he changed the mounts or screws recently? If so take them out and see if it will cycle then...Sometimes this happens because the screws are a .001 too long and ride the bolt. Also like the other post said...Check the screw behind the load gate and DEFINATLY do like he said and take out the mag spring and plug and clean and oil up in there cuzz it sure does get nasty..
You want a divorce if I go hunting today??? Well sorry ta see ya go...Was nice knowin ya..Dont let tha door hit ya where tha good lord split ya :D
