When to change your washer ???

Ok folks,

For those of you who have had a handi for a while, you know about the o-ring/rubber washer in the fore end to sweeten up the accuracy..

My question is how often do you change it?? Do you change when you accuracy starts to go  down, or are you one for changing it on a regular basis ??

Just curious is all..

...I use a slightly larger sized one than the recommended one in the FAQ's.....and will change it as needed by repeated barrel swapping...

I agree. It really depends on how often the barrel is being swapped. The little O-ring gets a lot of wear and tear this way. I also use a larger one. It fits my forearms a bit tighter, filling in the gaps. But some do not need a larger one I have found.

I quit using the washer and cut some .40 S&W brass to length. Drilled the forarm hole out to 7/16ths. Then glued the brass in place with just enough sticking out the top to hold the stock away from the barrel. Where the washer used to sit I filled with JB Weld. This gives a good solid metal on metal connection. My groups are consistant on both the 500 S&W and the ultra 25 06.

I used a threaded lamp post to bed a CZ 452, it works very well, thought about trying it on a Handi at one time, but never got around to it. Headspace's post reminded me of it, thx!

Please bare with me while I learn how to post pics. This should be two pics of the ultra with the brass sleeve glued in place without the JB Weld. The other two are of the handi fore arm with JB Weld on the inside where the washer used to be. This gives just a little space between the barrel and the stock I didn't even have to sand the stock. It does position the stock down slightly so in the future I may do some sanding and readjust. The reason I went with JB Weld is because the handi 500 came loose after some heavy loads at the range. No problems since the JB Weld was added. I have not added JB to the Ultra yet but it had no problems at the range.
