T/C New Englander
« on: December 19, 2006, 01:24:11 AM »
Just looking for opinions on the subject of whether to use 275 grain Maxi-Hunters or PRBs in my .50 cal New Englander for the late season antlerless deer hunt in IL.  I know they will both work given the proper distance.  I will be using Pyrodex RS so any load suggestions are welcomed.  My stand locations will keep most shots well within 50 yards.  This will be my first hunt with this ML and I just can't seem to decide for myself which projectile to use.

I use the .50 cal round ball all the time. It is great Deer medicine inside of 100 yards. 80g of Pyrodex is what is most accurate in my rifle, so that is my load. It has taken many whitetails out past 100 yards.
