Has anyone tried prbullet's new locking hinge pins for the encore? Is it any good. They always seem to offer the goods.

It looks interesting. I have an Encore pistol I bought used and it has a lot of play. I might give it a try.

I have no real Encore experience, but the side to side movement the add discusses would not be possible with a Contender forearm. Will the Encore forearm allow the pin to move out? It must have for this maker to have had this probllem, or he modified his forearm, or shot without one.

The Encore works the same way Contenders do, but in the case of my pistol the pin will actually fall out when I assemble the barrel and frame. the frame is used, but the barrel is brand new. When you open the pistol it will wiggle side to side. I also thought about calling T/C and just order a new hinge pin.

My new PH doesn't do this side to side movement thing that they discuss. I couldn't tell you if the pin rotates. But if your pin is doin this side to side thing, I agree that it should be sent back to Smith....er...I mean Thompson to get fixed.

T/C factory hinge pin - about $5 last time I ordered one for a Contender.

Fancy hinge pin - $40.

Having had a whole bunch of Contenders and a few Encores without ever having a problem like described - priceless.

Sounds like a cure waiting for a problem.

It gets very old when people have nothing of value to add to a post other then to criticize.
You don't like it, don't buy it, you don't see a need for it great, but someone might so let them make the decision for themselves.

So as far as chilling out, I am as chilled as I can get. It's Christmas time and I was told I have to be nice.

It seems that I just gave my opinion, I thought in a funny way. But as usual it disagrees with you so you say I am criticizing. I generally ignore your posts because that is a theme of yours, but this time you took a direct shot at me.

I have been hanging around on this site for a lot of years. I state my opinion and leave it at that. I do not quote someone elses post and disagree with it. Everything on here is someones opinion, and I state mine but see no value in arguing with someone elses.

Sorry Graybeard, I know how you feel about comments about any one person, but this one really hit me wrong when I read it.

As I have not had this problem (yet) I cant really comment with true knowledge on the subject...But the concept does look like its a plausible application to a particular problem (whew them was some big words fer me now ma brain hurts) Ok now for regular english...Looks like some people have been having problems with their hinge pin shifting and that DOES seem to me that it will cause impact shift. While mine is not having this problem I may get this just so I can shave down the forarm a tad cuzz I dont like it rubbing against ma frame anyway and I cant do that with the regular pin...So see...it has a use even if yours aint causing problems

I thought you did not read my posts !

I did not take a shot at you. Anyone that comes to an open forum needs to have a thick skin. A lot of people don't agree with me and tell me. If I don't agree with them, I tell them. That is what these forums are all about, not a love fest. We get information and pass on ideas and our experiences. I could not imagine if we all agreed on everything and did not challenge others thoughts and ideas. This place would be boring.

As Bullseye stated with his humorous little diddy, I too have been hunting, shooting and trading Contenders & Encores since 1987. I have two hinge pins currently that are smooth & shiny with no bluing left on them. They are considerably worn "in". All of my high-dollar barrels from SSK still shoot one hole groups no matter which of my two frames they are hung on. Don't need a new locking pin. I figure if it does rotate, that's good for wearing it evenly.

If noone was asking then there wouldnt be an answer!! From what I gatherd the guy had problems from his own and also saw the problem in others as well. Plus again...I do like the idea of being able to shave my forarm a bit so It doesnt rub the frame and leave marks eventually. The actual only drawback I see about it, I will have to keep an allen wrench handy but that aint much of a problem...I have a keyring set anyway for my bow!!

I agree with you cam69conv, someone must of needed one. Just because a product is not needed by everyone does not mean there is no need for it.

We are all guilty of buying things we don't really need. There is a highly developed industry in America marketing things to us. A classic example are the many designer diseases we are told to ask our doctors about. We see the ads every day on TV, and it fuels a multi-billion dollar drug industry.

Since this shooting sport is as much mental as anything else I assume that if someone thinks this will improve their shooting, it will. I still maintain that if one of my Contenders had a pin that would fall out it would go back to TC and get fixed. That gives me confidence and improves my shooting.

Were talking guns not health issues. If I think my gun will shoot better just because I put in a new part and assume it will, does not make it shoot better.

I almost fell out of my chair laughing when I read your post. Improvement in shooting is physical not mental, put a gun in a shooting vice and remove the mental aspect.

There are always new gimmics out there yes...But how does anyone see this as a gimmic? It seems to be merely an improvement in design of a possible flaw. While not everyone is having a problem, its obvious there are some or there would be no market for such a device. Yes shooting is just about as much mental as physical but how do you get that just buying this verses sending it to TC would be better? Seems to me its a flaw FROM TC and someone came up with something a little better!! So if you wish to use the "mental" argument then what you are saying is you are going to send it to the place that caused the problem rather than buying a part that fixed it? How is that going to improve your mental aspect of the problem?

Which almost no one does. Most don't even put their gun on a rest to sight it in. Then when they can't be consistent it is all the guns fault. Then they buy some snake oil to make it better.

It doesn't seem to be a problem for the vast majority of us that shoot TC. Hinge pins are snug, and do not need to be retained for our guns to work well. If they fall out then the gun needs to be returned to factory specs. TC will do that for free. This seems like the other pin hoax that so many have fallen for.
