700 ADL
« on: December 19, 2006, 11:28:37 AM »
Saw a Rem 700 ADL(yes ADL) in .270 at wally world today.  Personally I hate the place but didn't have a choice so figured I'd at least look at something I'm interested in.

Beautiful gun with a 22" barrel(almost positive) and a blonde laminated stock, similar to what Remington shows on their 673 guide gun on their website.

Wal Mart price of $498

Just curious, why does the adl not show on Rem's website?

Our local Wal-Mart has had them for a while.  Both 270 and 30-06.  I believe they are a special run.

approx' 1000 of the wal-marts stopped selling firearms.  they shipped whatever they couldn't sell before the end of this past March, 2006 to the rest of the stores that still do.   you're looking at an ADL' that probably sat on a shelf somewhere else.

it's a great rifle; but it's been discontinued and replaced with Rem's SPS rifle.

i don't think this is a special run.....

take care,

The Remington ADLs with the laminated stock were prevalent in the early-mid 90s. I paid close attention to this as I had received a walnut-stocked ADL as a Christmas present from my parents in '89. The fit and finish of these guns should be decent. However, it sounds like they have gone up quite a bit at $498. I would think one could get them to come off of that price.

Dave...Our local WallMart has been selling that same gun for several years, I've often thought that it would me a good rifle to have...I bet that they are made special for WalMart...Kinda like the Ruger 22 WalMart special....I doubt if they are "leftovers" because we have had several in both .270 and 30-06.
Try looking them up on the WalMart website...I know the Ruger 22 was on there...

I've seen those too and really like them.  It balances nice and the laminate is tough and attractive.  I have seen them in mostly  270 but they are not in al stores.  I imagine that, bein ADL's,  they are discontinued now.  If you like it you had better snap it up.

I have a 22-250 ADL that my Dad bought around 1975 with a walnut stock.  Other than a crack I made in the bottom where the magazine is from putting it back together slightly wrong and tightening the screw, the gun is in perfect condition and we dont take extra special care of it either.  It shoots very true with the new Burris 6-24x40, I would definitely buy another, infact Im shopping around for a larger caliber 700 synthetic that I can beat up.

I'm shopping around for something different from my Marlins & NEFs...and I ran across a nice 22" 30-06 ADL...nice lighter English or Claro walnut stock stock with cheek rest..box type checkering..Leupold dual turn in bases...bluing about 95%...wood about 75% maybe had roughly 200 rounds thru it...for $359.00...I'm thinking about getting this weekend if we don't get too much ice....Does this seem fair?..I'm thinking about shooting it for awhile..then putting a longer barrel on it..or making it into a AI on this barrel...

I swaped out my BDL stocks for sniper stocks and by accident discovered I could use the left over parts and change my ADL's into BDL's with magazine floor plates. All the screw holes were there, which makes sense from a manf process.

My 30-06 ADL is my most accurate big game rifle. The scope mount screws were drilled exactly centered with the barrel.

Mac11700 you have lots of options with the ADL and dressing it up. Accessories galore for the Rem 700 out there.
Here's a link to a pic of the 30-06 mentioned above dressed up into a varmint gun, doing one nights work. The coyote was taken at 100 yards and the fox at 70 yards.

The 700 ADL has been out of production for a year or two now; they are not "special runs" or guns made for Wal-Mart; the Ruger 22 Wal-Mart special is made for Wal-Mart because the Ruger 22 is still in actual production whereas I bet Remington destroyed all the molds and casts for the ADL before if not shortly thereafter their cease of production.

Even though the ADL has been out of production for several years they are still in Wal-mart's inventory.  The laminate stocked ADLs at Wal-mart were a special run for Wal-Mart.  Our local Wally world has had about 1/2 dozen for several years.  Sitting next to them are ADLs with synthetic stocks.

So a BDL stock will fit an ADL action/barrel just fine?  Just have to get an external box mag for it?

Yes. I was told it would not but they do.

I purchased a 25-06 in the Sendero model and replaced the stock with a sniper stock. The only thing I could use with the Sendero and the new stock was the magazine spring. I took the left over parts and they fit the ADL perfectly. The ADL has a standard barrel and the Sendero was for a bull barrel but you can hardly tell. It fit very nice, is free floated, and visually is attractive.

The other BDL was a also 223 bull barrel varmint which got the exact same sniper stock as the 25-06. Again the left over parts now went to a 223 ADL and everything fit perfectly. No jams. No problems. And each ADL now has the magazine floor plate.

And while a standard weight barrel may look strange in a bull barrel BDL stock note sniper stock to left in safe. That channel is designed for a 1.25" barrel and I'm not sure what the 223 bull varmint barrel is thats in it... possibly .920?
