The Little Known --- Browning 2000 Shotgun

Does anyone remember the Browning 2000 shotgun?  I have one that I purchased new some years ago, I don't recall the year of purchase.  The original purchase was with a modified barrel.  Since at the time I lived in the "Chemical State," New Jersey, I had to hunt deer with a shotgun so I elected to pickup a slug barrel for the Browning 2000.  While the gun performs well I have almost never come across anyone who has ever heard of this model; whether it be good or bad opinions.  Does anyone own one or have some firsthand opinion of this shotgun?

I hope that there is someone who knows of the Browning 2000.  I am curious as to what the actual production run numbers were.

Well,
    I don't have any first hand knowledge of the gun but, I flipped through the blue book of guns and found that standard model was made between 1974 and 1983. It states that approximately 115,000 were imported to the U.S.A. Hope this helps a little.

I think you can blame the A5 for the fact that the 2000 wasn't very popular. Kind of like the Corvette/Corvair for those who know Chevys. I am sure its a good gun the the A5 is a legend.

I just aquired one with 3 barrels, 30" 3", 26" 2.75" and a deer barrel.  Am anxious to shoot it if it ever stops raining.

I'm glad to hear that the B-2000 still makes some inroads on the consumer market.  Please let me know what you think of the feel and handling of the gun with its assortment of barrels.

I have one of those TOO! And love the way it loadable from an empty chamber via the magazine tube.

I appreciate your taking the time to list the two sources.

I too like the features and handling characteristics of the B-2000.  Many folks, as discussed earlier, know nothing of this model which is too bad.  For those of us that are fortunate enough to own one we can smile each time we shoot, clean, or just think of this gun.

If you are looking for extra barrels take a look at Jeff's Outfitters.  Plain barrels are new in the wrapper at 69 bucks.  I don't need any more but may be.

Finally got out to shoot my 2000 today, I really like it.  Shot about 3 boxes of 1 oz. loads, very soft recoil.  Think it's going to get shot alot this summer, than the 3" barrel goes for waterfowl.  Also going to have to try the slug barrel one of these days, don't know about open sights and my old eyes.  Might have to put a fiber optic front sight on.

Shot some turkey patterns with the 2000.  The 2.75" barrel with an extra full tube did well with Win. Supreme no. 6s.  The 3" barrel with a Briley Steel full choke tube did well with Heavy Shot no. 5s.  Tried the extra full steel tube and not so good.  Probably won't use it for turkeys but nice to know how it shoots with turkeys loads.

I've had one for 30 years, and to this day you'd be hard pressed to call any gas gun mechanically better than the 2000. If the gun was made today with a synthetic stock, teflon finish and interchangeable chokes, it would be the gun to beat. That said, I quit using mine for waterfowling after a couple years.....the bluing took a beating as did that cheesy plastic gloss finish. The wood is pretty but weird, too thin at the top of the forearm and too light, mine warped and cracked.  Mine is strictly upland bird for now, but I'd hunt waterfowl with a 3" barrel set up for steel shot and if I refinsihed the wood properly....and maybe added a sling.

Slickest action I've ever seen on a shotgun, and very nice to handle. I do wish it had the Auto 5 hump though.  :)    Good guns. I'd buy another without thinking twice. An outift in like Missouri bought all the Browning spare parts, employs ex Browning 'smiths and is the place to send a 2000 if it breaks.
