Remington 700 SPS VARMINT
« on: December 21, 2006, 04:26:43 AM »
I thought I was up to date on guns that would be commonly found.  But once in a while I get surprised.  Yesterday in a gun shop I saw a Remington 700 SPS "Varmint".  It had a variation of the SPS style stock with a shorter textured area and a widened "beavertail" forend.  It had a heavy barrel.  Everything else was typical SPS.

I forget the chambering, but I believe it was either 223 or 22-250.  I would be interested in such a thing in 308, 260 Rem, or 300 Win Mag.  A bare bones heavy barreled rifle by Remington.

Got to take another look at it, and boy is it nice yet simple.  The positioning and contouring of the forward grip is just perfect right behind the vented widened forend.

One in 308 is going to be pretty high on my want list, though it has lots of competition.  Perhaps for my birthday, which is just about halfway between Christmases.
