First, I need to find a First Class Smith that will be excited as I will be to rework probably a Model 629 Stainless in .44 Magnum. The project would include reducing barrel length to approximately 2 1/2"; cut and crown barrel, change the cylinder to a 5-shot configuration with no fluting, remount Baughman (or other) front sight; rework the grip frame to a smaller round butt; heavily melt all edges to ensure its ability to avoid snagging; install a front locking device; install appropriate trigger; perhaps semi-bob the hammer; First-Class trigger tune appropriate "for defense carry"; execute appropriate finish on gun, install appropriate handgun grips; then whatever appears to be necessary after discussing all practical options. Lastly, purchase several holsters for different types of carry --- somewhat depending on the time of the year.
I do not believe that I will consider Mag-Na-Porting on this project although I do have it on another .44 Magnum project.
Thanks to those who can contribute the names and abilities of Smiths that have plenty of knowledge with this type of project. This inquiry is certainly open directly to Smiths to respond if you are capable of doing such work and as importunately want to do this type of project.
Thanks guys for your serious input.
HAPPY AND SAFE HOLIDAY SEASONS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES.
