What Detector and Model Do You Use For Finding GOLD?
« on: December 24, 2006, 02:23:05 AM »
I am aware that there is a thread regarding metal detecting, but I believe that that thread is directed at finding RELICS, COINS and such.  So my question is "WHAT DETECTOR AND MODELS DO YOU USE FOR FINDING GOLD?

I currently have a MineLab Explorer II, while it is "not dedicated" to finding Gold it is supposed to be up to the task!  What units do you use and are you satisfied?

Perhaps we should seriously consider planning for a 2007 Gold Expedition; we can include some fine rifle/handgun shooting during the off hours.

Let's see the machine information and description of the results of your efforts.  Hopefully, the nuggets will not be too large to load onto this thread for viewing.  If they are too large then send them to me and I will process the nuggets for you.

Thanks,

Jay

I now have a GMT that I use for gold hunting. So far all i have found is just a clunky ole meteorite!  HA!!!!!!!!!! ;D
Better than gold I hear and sure a lot harder to find too.
I got the GMT to use in conjunction with my dry washer. this way I can track the black sands/minerals in the ground and save me a lot of time digging. Dound only one small nugget about 6 grains so far but it is a start.

Stan,

If I recall correctly you are now located in the Las Vegas area of NV.  I understand that Minelabs' U.S. Corp office is also located in the Las Vegas area.  Additionally, I have been told and read that the deserts of NV gives up plenty of gold on a regular basis.

I just viewed a picture of the meterorite that you harvested while on vacation.  Very nice find.

Thank you and I still cant believe I found such a nice specimen to boot on my first attempt. Now if I could just fined gold as easy I would be a real happy camper. Still waiting for that elusive nugget that has my name on it out there somewhere. I have tried a unch of spots north of Vegas with no luck and I have been searching an area in Gold Basin that looks promising so I might go there again next week to try my luck again. I have only been lucky with my drywasher and it is because of the GMT helping me track minerals in the ground.
