Here is some interesting trivia for your enjoyment. My mom's family had a ranch in North Dakota which they ran for just over 100 years. About 10 years ago my great uncle passed away and the property was sold. There were just three guns in that ranch house. First was a Winchester model 1894 saddle ring carbine in .32 Winchester Special. My great grandfather had acquired that rifle sometime around WWI and it still looked almost new. Next was a Winchester model 12 in 16 gauge which my great uncle won in a raffle just after WW2. It also was in mint condition. The third gun was a cheap .22 bolt action. This .22 was the only gun that seemed to get used and was well worn. No one in the family hunted and we don't remember any ancester owning a handgun. Basically ranching was hard work and money hard to come by.
