Why is it so hard to find.....?
« on: December 25, 2006, 07:11:18 AM »
Why is it so hard to find a Ruger Bisley .44 Mag in SS with a 5 1/2" barrel? I have found several Bisleys like this but in .45 LC. Did Ruger only make these for a short time? Thanks in advance for the info.  - Hole Maker

Well, in my experience, its hard enough to simply find a used Bisley in any caliber.  Then, finding a 5.5" barrel is even more difficult as you usually only see them in 7.5" barrels.  You can find all the BH's you want in various barrel lengths, but Bisley's are a whole different story.  As far as .44 vs .45, either one will be fine.  Personally, I think the Bisley is best served by the Colt, but they do equally well in a .44!

they made two runs of the .45s and only one of the .44s. I had both and sold the .45. Id never part with the .44 its the most accurate out of the box ruger ive ever owned.

The reason they are so hard to find is because there ain't many of them around! ;D

All of these were contracted by Acusport, hence being known as Acusport ugers.  The .44 was the initial offering, followed by models in .41, .45 Colt  and the convertable .45 Colt/.45ACP.  the three later ones all had two runs done of them getting production numbers up over 1000 units each.  The .44 model had just 1000 made so that keps them a bit harder to find.  Got mine and I'm keeping it tucked away with the others as safe queens.  ;D (do have an extra 45 Colt one as a shooter)  The lst two of these in anything other than .45 caliber were sold for over $600, one was used so when they are found, expect to pay a bit.

I don't recall that Ruger made very many  5.5 inch guns in any configuration.  I know they didn't in the .41 mag blackhawk unless they have recently.
Just another worthless opinion!!

Got this .45 Colt a while back and love it.  Use it as my woods gun and it can shoot a great group.

I saw one in a gun store today, except I think it had a longer barrel, maybe 6 1/2 or 7 1/2.  Used but looked like new.

My dealer used to have the 5.5" Bisley Vaqueros in both .44 and .45, but after I bought my .44 I haven't really noticed. (Been lookin' at other things!)

The Bisley vaqueros were a standard production, cataloged model.  made in a lot larger numbers but even still are becoming a bit more difficult to find now.

I cowboy action shoot and have a vender friend that is in the business.  Tom Barney is his name and this is his site:

Check out his site and see what you like.  He does great work and I have had handguns and rifle butts done.  They all came out beautifully.  Here is a 1886 Winchester levergun  Tom did:

Just saw a 5.5" used Bisley 45 today at the local gun store.  $399 I think was on it.  Looked good, but I withstood the temptation.

Well, I figured I wouldn't make it past the front steps at the house with another grey Ruger box.

My New Year's resolution is to think of some more excuses to buy a few more of those grey boxes.   ;D

Blackhawk73,

Thanks for the info on the Gunbroker sight After reading your thread I went on the Gunbroker sight and found exactly what I was looking for. The Bisley just went up for auction a few hours before. I eventually won the bid and should have my new toy in a couple of weeks.

Glad to help and happy to see you found one.  I recall this past year the same gun on there going off for around $600 so you got a good deal (I checked to see  ;))  I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as I do.  They're awesome guns!

Shoot safe!

Thanks for posting that link. I have emailed him for information on getting my pistol grips done. I have a ruger Vaquero 44 mag I carry as back up for my knife when hog hunting and was thinking about getting this logo on one side.

And maybe this one on the other.
