Gold in Ohio?
« on: December 26, 2006, 12:38:55 PM »
I never hear of anyone prospecting in Ohio and I wonder if there was ever gold here.  I have a couple of small creeks that originate on my property and it would be fun to try panning to see what I find.

Getting old and can't remember.  Is there a Yogi Bear or Jelly Stone campgrounds in Ohio?  I think they have a gold panning section on a stream in their property.  Gold in Ohio is glacier sediment left over from the last ice age.  So it will be dispersed in streams quite a bit and you won't find any deposits.

Wouldn't you know?  The glacier stopped about 5 miles north of me.

I beg to differ...here's a pic from 4 hours with my homemade dredge at an undisclosed location
opened a hole about 4'x4'x18"

yes theres gold in ohio . the ohio prospectors assoc. has a lease on buckskin creek  in ross county that produces alot of flour gold and ocassionaly a few pickers and nuggets .  there is also a known claim down in scioto county , one in clermont county, and the one mentioned by dave in the bush up in north central ohio.  most of ohio gold is flour gold, fine particals about the size of a grain of flour. but none the less , GOLD !
