I hope you got the base from H&R because some of the aftermarket bases do not have cross slots fully to the rear which does not allow the scope to be mounted back enough to have good scope to eye relationship. I know as I bought a Weaver base which fits just fine but does not have the rear slots. I had to re-order one from H&R and it is correct. Better check before you mount and then find you cannot return the first one. I use Warne QD rings which work just fine.

You can see the difference in the Weaver #82 and the H&R rails in the pic. As Keith said, that 1" flat at the rear of the rail is a real bad deal since that's the best place for the rear ring. Medium rings should work fine depending on the scope power ring/ocular bell size and position in relation to the hammer.

The H&R base is only available from them, they're closed until the 3rd, but you may be able to order it for $18+ shpg with a hammer extension, Mary was on the phones there yesterday, so they may take an order tomorrow. The Weaver #82 is the only other choice.

A lot of shooters like the Leupold Rifleman rings in high, they're like $12 or so at Walmart, I have a pair that I got on a used rifle, they're very serviceable rings and would mount any scope you'd want to use on the Huntsman.

You can find their toll free number in the Centerfire FAQs and Help.

Terry,

What type of scope do you plan on mounting? If you mount a shotgun scope with lots of eye relief, you just might be able to use that Weaver base. I have the standard rail (top rail in quick's pic) on my Huntsman. Depending on the scope, ocular bell, eye relief, you might be able to get away with Medium rings as long as you have a hamer spur extension. You will probably want that extension, so I would suggest ordering the rail & extension from H&R/NEF.

If you use the Weaver without a hammer extension, you will more than likely have to use High rings. Let us know what your scope and ring budget is, and we will be able to help you better.

Make sure you use the ramrod as designed, push bullet in as far as you can while collapsed, then extend and seat bullet on charge. I have never had a problem with mine doing it that way, but I also only use the supplied ramrod for follow up shots in the field. If you have another rod (range rod) use that for all your range work and cleaning.

The ramrod is about $8 from H&R/NEF.

Here's one that I've seen mentioned on the forum as being pretty good, specially for the money.

Terry,

Just make sure if you do mount a shotgun scope, that it doesn't have too much eye relief. 4" is good, 5" to 5-1/2" is generally too much for the standard rail. Another option would be a red dot scope, but I couldn't give you any suggestions as I have no experience with them. I would think if you got one with a low MOA dot, it might serve your needs. For every 1 MOA, the dot will be that large at 100 yards. 2 MOA dot will be just a tad over 2" at 100 yards, 5 MOA dot will be a little over 5" at 100 yards, etc. The smaller the dot, the more accurate your aiming will be.

Good luck, and I hope you find something that will serve you well.
