Quick, .35 Remington Handi question

Hello Quick, I would appreciate your insight into the matter of rechambering a .357 Max Handi to .35 Remington. Do you see any problems with using a .357 Max to turn into a .35 Remington? Is there enough length left in the chamber area after reaming a .357 Mag to a .357 Max or could it be close?...Thanks....<><.... :)

I think you're making a LOT of assumptions about the quality of the original work performed. Looks to me like the 1.605" dimension of the Max will carry well out into the neck of the .35 Rem chamber. Out there your looking at .379" vs. .387". Not a lot of room for the person doing the rechamber to have messed up and got a wee bit off center and you to still have room to clean it up.

The key is to have someone that knows what they're doing do the work. Wayne York did mine and it works perfect. ;) If he had a less than perfect chamber to work with, I'm sure he would have let me know.

I also have been thinking about the 35 remington but also a 358 Win. can the it be made out of the 357 barrel or should it be done with one of the longer barrels for 358 Win. ?.......................John

The .358 Win could be made from a 357 barrel, 22" would be just fine and would only require a rechamber, but a .358 anything in a longer barrel would require a rebore which runs cost up from $50-$100 for a rechamber to well over $300 for the rechamber and rebore. Of just get a .35 Whelen, it's already in production and available as an accessory barrel. It's also been available in a 26" barreled version in the RMEF Ultra made in 1996, they come up for sale every once in a while and some of us lucky sumnaguns got em!! ;D

I hate to say this, and I do feel blessed,  but I'm one of those "lucky sumnaguns" that got one of those 26" .35 Whelen barrels!!!
You got to love those 26" barrels, of course I really like my 19" barrelled .280 Handi also. Lik2hunt just got one of my 26" .280 barrels from me so I guess he is a "lucky sumnagun" now also!!!....<><.... ;D

What about the .357 slower twist?  I would assume that you would want the 200 gr. or heavier bullets in a larger case.  Consider the .356 Winchester?  It is a rimmed .358 if I remember.  This is a consideration for those of us who want a larger fast bullet.

The 1:18¾" 357 twist shoots 250gr bullets just fine. I've shot 240gr Mt Baldys and Paul5388 has shoots 250gr BTBs in his. ;)
