Well poop! I pulled my fishing boat eighty miles yesterday up to Salamonie Lake up by Wabash Indiana. I had been telling this high school kid who works where I do how great a crappie lake it is. Well... when we get there, I discover that they have it at 20 feet below summer pond. This translates to at least eight feet vertically. What have always been stumps just below the surface are now "poles" sticking anywhere from 5 to 7 or 8 feet above the surface. Some narrows and back bays are litterally non-existent now. The lake was full of trash too. Limbs, logs, 2 x 4's and all sorts of things. I have never seen such a mess. We fished for about three hours, but only caught one little crappie. Heck, it was smaller than the koi and goldfish in my garden pond... Crappie crappie fishing... Crap!!!

season opens this weekend and the crappies should be up in the shallows preping for the spawn, although it has been too cool here for that.

Thank God I live in the south! I've been catching fish while working on my tan for two months now. Fishing season is whenever you feel like going here. While I'm at it, I'm thankfull I live on a 7000acre lake too! Well, better get going I have just enough time to catch one or two before dark!

The humidity/heat are tough, but on the other hand, that's what gives us our long growing season and early springs. I have to think, that's more of a good thing! Get out and enjoy what God has given us!
Good Fishing,
