 ???

I have been using a 20ga USH for three years and my gun likes Lightfied Hybred Exp's to 75yds 1-2" groups ,75-125yds Remington

Copper Solids 2-3" groups also had some success with Winchester Platinum Tips. Best to try different sabot and find the one's work

best for you.GL

I'm going to be doing some rangework with a 20 ga USH in the next couple months.
So likewise, I am curious to hear some of the responses to your post.
I haven't spent a great deal of time with this gun but so far the Platinum Tips (1,700 fps) seem to pattern well.
I'll also be shooting some Hornady's (1,800 fps) and the Federal Barnes Exp (1,900 fps) to see what it likes the best.

Just a suggestion:
But you may want to also post this in the Slug Gun Forum that appears under Shotguns and Wingshooting!

Copper solids, great accuracy (one ragged hole at 50yds) and terminal ballistics are second to none.

Do you mean the core-lokt ultras? They are the only 20ga load I've found that list ballistics at 200yds (1080 ft lbs energy). Fed only shows their 125 yard ballistics. The manufacturers usually test them with 30" barrels. Has anyone chrono'd this load or the fed barnes expanders out of the 24" barrel?

On only the third overall shot thru the Chrony with a Federal Hydra-Shok sabot, the separating sabot whacked the digital read out screen and wrecked my chrony. I had finally settled on using the 2 3/4" Remington Cor-Lokt ultras, but have recently purchased some 3" Winchester Partition Golds and will use them because of the extra muzzle energy and they are rated @2000 fps vs 1900 fps for the Cor-Lokts and the 2 3/4" Partition Golds. Accuracy was about the same with all three offerings.

Thanks, Carbineman. Sorry to hear about your chrony. Where did you find the Partition Golds? They look like the king of the 20ga sabots in terms of published ballistics. I'm glad they are now fully developing the 3" 20ga sabots. In the past the 20ga slug had a stigma and seen to be reserved for new shooters and the recoil shy. Nice to see that's changing. I can't wait to get mine back with its new Tracker II barrel!

Usherj,
I was refering to the Remington Copper Solid 20ga round, the core lokts weren't as accurate in my gun, plus they were louder and kicked more.  I can't comment on range as I haven't had to shoot a deer at over 70 yards and only practice to 100 with my slug guns.

Thanky for the replies.  This will give me some good starting points, and I'll be sure not to chrony my loads! LOL :o

I tried about a dozen different flavors & the best I came up with was the 2 3/4" Win Partition Golds.   Results :  5 one shot quick kills in 5 years.   BTW, I tried a Rem Slugger, just to see where it might go.  At 50 yds it was 1 inch lower than the golds, but it went through the paper sideways.

Bugtussle:

Could I ask at what distances you got those five one shot quick kills?

Thanks

The closest was about 15 feet.   All I could see was hair in the scope so I just looked down the side of the barrel.   The farthest was 120 yds.   Rest were 40 - 60 yds.
