Inline similar to big bores
« on: December 28, 2006, 06:11:30 PM »
Other than only having one shot isn't an inline that can shoot 44 , 45 & 50 cal. bullets about as good as using a 444 or 45-70 within a 125 range for deer or is it no contest? :-\

I would say you are correct.  With the 150 gr. muzzleloader and different bullet designs, I would say the muzzleloader's are on par with the cartridges you mentioned.

As a side note:
I have been lobbing the Delaware DNR about the use of straight wall cartridges for deer season in conjunction with the shotgun season. With some of today's shotgun slugs, the range is getting close to the 45-70 and such.
If  you're going to make a hole, make it a big one.

Yea, if one is willing to put in the range time with the muzzle loader it looks like a close call. Developing consistency is my biggest challange. My son took a decent buck at 163 paces with my remington 11-87 12 gauge this past year. If I wasn't retired I'd get a 444 but it does not look that superior to my inlines. Good luck with your letter. In michigan it is legal to use revolvers in the shotgun zones but I'm not sure about , say a single shot T/C pistol in 444 or 45-70. :)

animal,

The singe shot Contender/Encore pistols used to be illegal, but are now legal as are all conventional (smokeless powder) handguns with straight walled cartridges in .35 caliber or larger for deer during the General Firearms Deer Season.
