? about steven, savage, springfield SxS shotguns
« on: December 31, 2006, 09:40:45 AM »
I have been looking around at older SxS shotguns and would like some opinons on the quality and reliability of the older Stevens, Savage and Springfield guns. I like the look and feel of these older guns. Are they worth the money, are they good shooters, most of all are they safe with modern loads?

Thanks for your opinions and information

Terry

Good solid old guns, not fancy but functionally they are gun guns. Yes as best as I can recall I think all were made well after the switch away from damascus steel and should be fine with modern loads but if it's an old one having it checked out by a gunsmith is a prudent thing to do.

I picked up a Stevens 311 in 1972 from a neighbor that was my go to gun.  Some scumbag broke into my house in 1980 and stole it along with three other firearms...I'd still have that gun today.  You can't go wrong with the Savage/Stevens 311 series.
