7.62x39 VMAX on game?
« on: December 31, 2006, 11:30:06 AM »
Since the 7.62x39 would only be going....say....2300 fps would the 123 VMAX be solid enough for deer?  Sure the VMAX bullets are made to be frangible at high speeds, but this bullet looks pretty solid with a big base.  Anyone shoot coyotes or that the bullet was made for?

Blue..I have no experience with that bullet in a 7.62 X 39, but I do know that folks are loading the 110 grain V-max .277 in the 6.8 SPC for use on whitetails.  I would recommend you shoot some wet phone books or such to see how the bullet stays together..

Thanks for the reply.  I loaded that 110 grain .277 into the 270 Winchester thinking, "varmint round".  It was a bit too fast in the .270.  That is actually what got me to thinking that the slower speed of the Russian would work.
