Scope Question

I have an older 2.5X32 Tasco that was made in Japan.  It looks new.  Do you think my .45-70 would kill it?  The eye relief is about 4 fingers.  Should I just forget it and put the 2X7 Leupold back on it?

I think the only way to find out is to try it. Is it dear to you? How old we talking? Might be ok might not. Unless you want it for something else I would give it a try. JMO

I believe this scope was made in the late 60s.  It seems like I read somewhere that the Tascos made in Japan were better.  To tell the truth I've never had a problem with any Tasco scope but the .45-70 Handi does let you know when it goes off.  I could use it on another gun, but the 2.5 seems well suited for this big bore woods rifle.

Seeing as it's a fixed power, seems it should be ok.  They're usually sturdy.  I've an old Bushnell fixed 4X on my much modified Savage 24DL that now weighs 6.5 lbs, and it handles the recoil from the 3" 20 shells fine.
The older Tasco's are of a bit better quality than this Bushnell, I believe.

I put it on and sighted it in.  It's probably too early to tell, but the scope tracked perfectly and the gun shot well.  I took it hunting for a few hours.  Everyone needs a .45-70.

I had an older Japan made Tasco 3x9 on my bolt action 30-06 for years and it never lost point of aim. It's on my NEF 30-30 now and still hits where I aim. Should be OK on the 45-70. The old Tasco's where pretty good lower end scopes.
