I have one in 223 with the standard 23 inch barrel , it is a good shooting gun even with cheap shells , it is pretty accurate even though i dont have a scope on mine yet i could hit a soup can 3 out of 5 time at 100 yards with just the open sights. It has never misfired or had any problems. I would suggest one of them.

I own a Rossi slug gun.  It seems quite accurate for my purposes.  I have not fired any sabots in it, just full diameter Brenneke slugs.  I am not real fond of the rear sight, cheap plastic.  I really had to drift the rear sight quite a ways to the right to get my hits sighted in.  Overall the quailty seems quite good however and I am satisfied with it.  I have never had a misfire and it ejects the shells smartly.

The Rossi is a forgien copy of an american made gun, the H&R/NEF Handirife. I own several Handi's and have handled and examined Rossi's at a gun store. I recommend you purchase the real deal, the H&R, not the forgien copy. They are made better, made in this country by an old american company. Also the service is easy to get and OUTSTANDING, addittional barrels are easily availabe from the factory. There is not much at all to recommend a Rossi over any H&R unless it is impossible for you to get a H&R/NEF where you live. Then you might have to make do with the second rate copy, from what I hear they work OK. Ask yourself this, if I can get the original for the same price, which is batter than the copy in all respects, why buy a second rate clone?....<><.... ;)

Andy my friend don't under-rate the Rossi too much.If you own one and/or have shot one then you will come to realize that they are as good as the Handi rifles.Perhaps they are not as finely finished and have a little different "look" to the receiver but they are accurate and the fit of wood to metal is good.
Having been a "Handiholic" for several years and not having owned a Rossi until recently I also looked down my nose at them.Then it occassioned that my local gun shop got a .223 in on a trade and I bought it.I was pleasantly surprised to inspect it and find that it was made as good as an NEF.In addition to the safety bar it also has a safety.Upon shooting it I was rewarded with very very good accuracy and perfect function as well as a very acceptable trigger pull.Now on the minus side I might not have access to possible factory repairs if needed and that is a consideration.Also the extra barrell program is seemingly non-existent with Rossi.
All in all not a bad rifle for the money.

Thanks for that info Stan, coming from someone I have grown to believe has his head on straight and one that makes rational decisions has made me think perhaps there is something there that I have been missing. I am involved with the H&R's right now and dio not think that for the same money I would buy a Rossi, especially with the lack of additional barrels (I know they have been talking about it for a couple of years now but nothinh yet) and also foor the lack of any reasonable repairs available, especially when stacked up against H&R/NEFS outstanding Customer Service department and liberal warranty work, H&R/NEF really stand behind thier guns AND they are made here in the USA by american citizens. However if I ever see a Rossi for a low price I will now consider it, something I would have never done before. Thanks Stan for you thoughts, and if I find a cheap one, in decent shape or  beat up, in a coyote or deer caliber. .223, .357, 30-30, I will probably buy it, shoot it, and then give it to a friend in Maine for a coyote gun, and I am sure if I find a cheap one he will be very thankful to you for your words of expierence....<><.... :)

my grandpa won one with a 22lr and 20 ga barrel at our QU banquet.  acutally i pretty nice little gun.  it makes an excellent truck gun (its a youth model) and works great for shooting animals we have caught in live traps.  i personally havnt shot anything besides armadillos with it but it worked great for that.

iBeing a Rossi rifle owner, I can say that they stand up to a Handi rifle with equal results. Its true they don't have a barrel exchange program like H&R but I would match them up any day for accuracy.

I own an old 357SS, a nice little gun. Better describe as a small handi and cheaply made, while not crappy and being as accurate and pleasant to own. I own also 3 handi (22H, 30-30 / 20 ga, 45-70).
I like Single shot, I buy what I could, I've no access to barrel program anyway. I've no regret, the 357SS is a keeper.

Fleet Farm in Wisconsin and Minnesota have a sale on Rossi combos . 50 cal. muzzloader, 12 ga, 243 win. for 229.00.

Hi Everyone!
                Im new to this forum and hope you dont mind me joining in? I picked up a Rossi 50 cal. muzzeloader/243cal. combo up at a gun show this last summer for under $250.00.I thought it would be a good coyote gun and the muzzeloader for deer.Well I never have hunted with a 243 before so wasnt sure how effective it would be.I did take it out one morning during deer season to try and fill a doe tag. Well I made a long down hill shot at a big doe.It hit ware I was aiming and was surprised at how quick she went down.I was impressed.I have to work with the muzzeloader barrel some more. I dont have a scope on it which is no big deal but missed a deer at close range I dont think its the guns fault I didnt spend the time shooting it as much as my other guns.I dont think it shoots as good as my Kodiak does.

Found a Rossi .308 youth for $149 at a local gander mountain.... thinking about picking it up.... its about 100 cheaper than the H&R, and all the stores around here are sold out of the H&R

I too recently tried to buy a Handi-rifle at the local Gander Mountian and they were also sold out. When I asked about ordering they said they would try but are having trouble getting them right now. So I bought a Rossi also in .22-250 with heavy barrel. I haven't had a chance to fire it yet but I did get the scope mounted on it today. Just waitng for some good weather now.
